just test drove a 6.2 lariat

I felt a lil underwhelmed. I thought it would have a lil more grunt but maybe I am off base. I plan on test driving a 5.0 and ecoboost monday. Maybe after I have something to compare it too I will be more impressed. Anybody ever test drove the 6.2 and end up not being that impressed?

6.2l

Your not alone. I test drove one before I bought my ecoboost. I was left wanting as well. Coming from an 09 5.4 there was a difference in the 6.2 but not like the ecoboost.
Needless to say I gave up navigation to get the ecoboost and really enjoy it.

Yeah I was prepared to buy a 50,000 truck. This thing is loaded and the color I want. I thought it would be a mere formality doing the test drive. Well now I might just get an xlt with 4 wheel drive with one of the other engines. I will have a better idea after I drive them this week. They also had a nice king ranch there with the 5.0. I may get that you never know lol.

As a 6.2 owner I will say that I do enjoy the engine. I was contemplating the ecoboost but with the deal I got on the truck I couldn't pass it up. If a turbo gets released for the 6.2 I am happier to have the bigger engine to bolt it too. I had a 4 cyl with a factory turbo and there wasn't much I could safely do on that small of an engine. I guess we each have our own opinions but I am happy with the 6.2

Like I said I need something to compare it too. It has more power than my 2010 with 4.6 3v but I was expecting more. My opinion is a bit screws though. I went to my test drive in my toy. A 2009 gt 500 that puts 551 hp to the rear wheels so I need to recalibrate my butt Dyno lol. One thing I will say about the 6.2..... I think a tune will wake this bad boy up alot

I was the same way.. but my butt dyno was a bit skewed as well, having just come from a 500hp sports car.

I ended up getting the Ecoboost. And can tell you the more i drive it, the more i am impressed with this motor. This is the hardest pulling truck i have ever driven. love it

It's not the motor. It's the drive by wire and transmission programing. Get a 5 Star tune and it's a whole other experience.

I drove a 6.2L SuperCrew and an 3.5LTT back-to-back on a pretty extensive test drive.

For me, the EcoBoost came out as the clear winner from an acceleration and handling perspective, not even close. The extra few hundred pounds over the front axle is not kind to F150 handling. And almost all magazine tests and owner reported dragstrip times put the 6.2L as slower than the 3.5TT.

The better fuel mileage is just gravy... (though a very tasty gravy!)

Advantages of the 6.2L?
  • Big throaty growl, which for me, would turn into a disadvantage in about a month.
  • Tell your buddies you have a big block cool factor.
  • Hmmm... nothing else comes to mind.

So I bought an FX4 SuperCrew EcoBoost. And love it!

Opinions are like *******s - everyone has them. So here is mine, after driving both back to back (ecoboost and 6.2) the ecoboost felt weak to me. Once it spooled I expected more mid range and top end out of it, never happened. Felt like it fell off actually, the opposite that I would expect of a turbo motor.

The 6.2 will feel a little disappointing when test driving. That's because full throttle does not happen until the engine reaches 4500 rpms. Ford limits throttle so that the engine isn't destroying things....like tires, transmission, etc. This should be a real screamer with a tune or chip.

If I was in the market for a new truck this would be my debate b/c it would be either the Eco or the 6.2

I'm on exactly the same page with you here. My little 4cyl turbo was a blast to drive (and actually decent to mod), but the 6.2 has a LOT more potential. I was actually going to buy an ecoboost as well, but a few things held me back, and I got a hell of a deal on the 6.2 LL.
There is a complete difference (to me) in power delivery as well. While the ecoboost may have a little more off the line, it felt like it fell off the face of the planet above 4k RPM's. The 6.2 just keeps hammering all the way to redline.
