Any 5.0l owners out there?

Anyone on here have a 2011 5.0l?? If so, would like to hear what ur opinions of the new motor are. What did you trade in on it? What or do you tow with it??

At work we just purchased a F-150 5.0 4x4! Driving it the other day around town it felt exactly like my 5.4 however when you step on it! WOW! What a sleeper!!!

Good to know. I will be test driving both the 5,0 and the EcoBoost before i order a 2012. Also Depends on towing capacity.

Tow capacity is more than you should tow with most half ton trucks. You'll probably run out of payload with either one before the tow rating. That's why I recommend the max towing package which increases both GVWR and payload, by as much as 450 pounds. That forces you into the EB or 6.2L.

just got one.

i went back and forth and back again about the engines. i chose the 5.0. the turbo 6 was very nice indeed. you can't go wrong there. what pushed me back to the v8 was the sound, quite frankly. i don't think the ecoboost is efficient enough on fuel to warrant choosing it over the v8 either. to me, it doesn't do anything substantially different then the v8 does to justify paying extra for the turbo 6. now, if guys are saying the pulling power of the turbo blows away the 5.0, then that is something. i just find that unlikely. 95% of my driving is unloaded, so i felt that the driving experience would be enhanced by adding the lovely sound of a ford v8.

that said, i'm coming out of an 2WD 08 f250 diesel supercab that could pull a house off it's foundation. i have a 9500 lb enclosed race trailer that i occasionally haul. i feel the 5.0 is up to it when the need arises. if i needed to pull that trailer weekly, i would have kept the superduty. now that's it's only once in a while, i think any of the f150 engines are fine for up to 10,000 lbs on occasion. regular towing of a rig over 9000 lbs is best done with an f250 and a diesel motor.

i went through the same thing you are asking about and was convinced the ecoboost was best on paper. but after driving them back to back, i like including my ears in the driving experience. the ecoboost doesn't sound like anything. just personal preference.

Traffic53- I agree with you 100% on everything you said. I am currently driving a 2008 5.4L 3.73 gears FX4. I pull a 28ft camper weighing in at 6800lbs dry. I work at a Ford dealership and have drive the 5.0L and the EB, and the EB will def get up the road quick, no queston there and the 5.0L gets with the program too. Like we were talking here at work yesterday. The max trailer tow is 9300LB. Thats too much for any half ton truck. If ur gonna pull that much, u need a 250 or 350 or properly handle the weight if u tow that every day. Right now its hard to get 5.0L's cause Ford is pushing the EB so hard. I know this, that 5.0L will leave my 5.4L sitting in the dust!!!

I've got the 5.0 for my FX4 crewcab, and I love it! I went 5.0 for all the reasons Traffic53 mentioned.

Like you i chose the 5.0, Its got plenty of power to pull your trailer, just not daily.

30ft Searay Weekender, pulled it no problem. 10-11k boat, 2-3k trailer.
You will be happy with the 5.0, I am. The Eco Boost is a cool option, I just cant get over it sounding lilke an accord or civic, on crack.

I have the 5.0 4x4 with 3.73s ELD. I love the power and sound. I don't tow on a regular basis, and the difference in MPG was not significant. When I do tow, its a single axle trailer with 2 four wheelers. The 5.0 pulls with no problem. It's like nothing is back there. I also like the 36 gallon fuel tank for long trips. You can't get that with the Eco. My MPG is 20-21 straight Hwy, and 17-18 combined.

So I'm very pleased!

I have the 5.0 in my 11 supercab fx4. Chose it over the Eco because of turbo lag and v6 sound. Getting almost same mpg as Eco reports. Traded in a 05 crew cab fx4 6.0 diesel.

Pale Screw, those are some very good mpg numbers for the 5.0!

Did you find that the efficiency increased over time? I haven't had my truck long and I'm hoping that it will. Right now I'm getting about the same mpgs as I did with my 5.4 2006.

I would say efficiency increased over time, but I was like a little kid when I first got the truck. It was hard to stay out of the throttle in the beginning. I traded in a 2001 4.6 4x4 Scab for the 5.0. Night and day difference. I've been trying to be less aggressive with my driving now. I just turned 5000 miles.

Here is what I do. I get up to speed with moderate acceleration, and try to anticipate hills/stops. I use the trucks momentum to maintain speed going down hill, and stay out of the throttle. I try to avoid the fast lane, and keep my highway speeds below 70mph. I also watch the instant mpg screen to improve my driving habits. The more of the green bar I see, the less fuel I burn.

nathan08fx4, sorry no pics of the truck yet. I will try to get some up soon.
