Passing gear/tranny issue!!

So I was on the interstate yesterday and punch it to pass someone, when the passing gear kicked in and downshifted, it made a loud pop and stalled for a second and jerked really hard. It felt like it slipped hardcore.... I've got 2009 reg cab 4.6 with automatic tranny and only 14k miles.... This sound familiar to anyone, or anyone else have a similar problem.

Dealership today said it's because I have bigger tires.... I went from stock to 33".... Does that sound right?

That sound like bs. Has it only done it the one time? Could you tell where the pop was coming from?

It seriously felt like tranny.... I thought about maybe the rear end but there really has to be no way it was that.... Idk, my dealership doesn't try too hard, they don't really seem to give a crap unless you come in with a high dollar rig. Anyways they are giving me a he'll over my traction control too... Saying that the only reason it's kicking on is the larger tires.... Yes, I agree with that in part, but not when I hit a pebble when I turn... Anyways I'm about to come undone tomorrow when I go in.

Oh sorry, it was the first time it's happened too. If they don't look into it some more, I'm gonna give it another try again when I pick it up. Then I'm gonna throw a shi++y and take it to another dealership, even though it's outta town, and not where I bought my truck ( but more than likley will have my next vehicle from them now)

Same as mine.

And mine shifts sweet...

But I have a tune as well...

What do you mean passing gear...

Like you kicked it down to second? third?...

Describe what happened better..

I've always called it a passing gear.... When on an automatic you accelerate harder and you tranny drops a gear.... Like when your trying to pass someone.

Mine has always shifted fine.... I've often had the bump problem, where I come to a stop and a slight bump feeling comes on, but nothing big.

The 4 spd has 4 gears and a TC (torque converter) lock up after 4th.

Your passing gear doesn't exist...Its simply the TC unlocking to bring the revs up...

If you turn the overdrive off, you'll notice if your not under load, the TC will also lock up in 3rd too...

People think there OD button is broke....But its the TC, not a shift.

And you say there was a loud noise?

Dealership is sticking to the bigger tires as the reason.

Yeah I'm probably going to. I'm also having hell getting them to do the traction control update/flash.
