Yep. My fiance' has a 2010 fusion and it does the same thing... scared the crap out of me first time it happened.

That is the funniest thing I have read in awhile.

There is not a TSB for for what you are describing on a '11 model. Here are all the current TSBs for the 2011 F-150 (regardless of engine)

I noticed it does that when I am NOT in tow/haul mode and I have cruise on. It down shifts when I go down a hill to keep the speed close to the "set cruising speed".

But there is other times it down shifts when coming to a light or on the highway going down a hill. I was told it is the computer "reading your driving habits". It is basically assuming you are going to be stopping soon and begins down shifting when you have no pressure on the gas.

I had the truck in this week and there is no TSB for the downshifting. The dealer called Ford and got a new program to flash the truck with and it did not seem to change anything.

ecoboost trans. issues

I have a 2011 F150 Lariat which has the following symtoms:

1. Extremely hard shifting and no set shifting points. One time it is as smooth as silk and shifts like a Lincoln and the next time it bangs like a hot rod.

2. Downshifts whether it is in tow mode or not. Acts like it has been shifted into 2 and downshifts from 70 to 30 one gear at a time.

3. Very bad shift from 2 to 1 almost every time and especially from 1 to 2 when it is cold.

4. Highway fuel mileage is 16.5 to 17.2 with no ethanol. Yes, we can still buy it.

The truck is 2 months old and has 8600 miles on it. I drive all over west Texas so there are very little hills to deal with. I set it on 70 and set the cruise control.

Manufacture date 05/11

I am open to thoughts. I have read and am taking copies to the dealer today but I fall outside of the bad manufacture dates. Maybe they found my trans. in a dark closet and used it.

I love the truck but the shifting is driving me batty. I traded in a gmc because of grinding in the transfer case.

Thank you for reading my plea. I am open to all help.

There is TSB 11-7-18 and 11-10-15 for harsh shifting.

I've been watching that thread, and will keep my eye on this one. I've got a 2011 5.0, and it seems to shift hard into 1st as I'm coming to a stop. No sound, just a weird lunge right as I'm almost to a complete stop. I've only got 1000 miles on the truck, I've never towed anything, nor am I in tow mode. I've checked out my productivity screen where it shows what gear you are in. As I slow down to a stop, my truck will downshift from 6th gear, 5th, 4th, 3rd, and then to 1st. For the life of me, I can't get my truck to downshift into 2nd. I'm thinking that might explain my situation. Maybe the shift from 3rd down to 1st is giving the extra little bump I'm feeling. And maybe this is by design that it won't downshift to 2nd. Just my 2 cents on what I'm experiencing. No noticeable issues with any of the other gears. Hopefully with more mileage and break in, things will smooth out. Thank goodness for warranties. This is the exact reason I'm holding off for a little while before I do a lift kit.
Took mine in for this issue of going into first. dealer checked it out emailed a Ford a tech and its supposed to be normal. They did install a friction modifier which can help.

Mine does it on hills to sometimes. But take in mind it is a 6spd tranny. There are 1-2 more gears than what some older vehicles had, so on an old 4 or 5 speed where it wouldnt drop down it now does it. T

Mine does it when you turn into a driveway and coast, or on a parking lot, give it just a little gas and let off. It is supposed to be common on early built 2011s and my dealer said they will do the reflash when I take it in.

Yeah I asked about the flash and dealer really didnt say that it would correct the problem because the Ford tech line said it was normal. Like I said they put the friction whatever in there so maybe that helps.

Grabbed a friend and drove 60 mi. to dealership. Shifting got just plum screwey. Stop sign and 4th gear and no downsift to 1st. Stopped for lunch and had about a 24" diameter puddle under the truck (enough that it had ran out of the passenger side behind front tire on a flat parking lot).

What is interesting was it had not set a single code in the computer.

To say I am extremely let down over this. I had a discussion over whos wild idea is it to not have a dipstick and what would a person do if he or she had an emergency. You have to have a lift to check fluid. If Ford needs 10.00 to make a dipstick, I will be more than happy to pay.

My dealer has been wonderful this afternoon dealing with this, but with my occupation and the miles I drive (over 8k in 2 months), can I trust this truck? I wish someone from Ford (factory) would PM me.

Spoke to dealership yesterday. There is a TSB for 2011 f150 echoboost built from april to june 2011 that the front pumps start leaking. You do not see the leak till it is too late as the fluid is absorbed into the sound deadener insulation. One day when you are in the Chinese restaurant, it will come a floodin. Just wanted to give you heads up and if you have one of these trucks, get it checked before it leaves you stranded.

Maybe one of the Ford techies and elaborate on the front pump tsb.

This is not an ecoboost issue. It could affect any F150 built between 4/5/11 and 6/8/11.
