You will get different responses from different people on here. I would suggest reading under the Chips/Programming Section at the top of the page. If you want my opinion I would go with 5 Star or VMP, both have a very good reputation on this website.

Read the stickys in chips and tuners. It will help a lot. They helped me to pick one. I personally like PHP.

Your second thread was removed as you are allowed one thread per subject. If you want this thread moved to the Tuning Forum, let me know.

If you choose 5 star or VMP both of them use a SCT X3 hand held programmer. When you order it they will request your PCM code which can be found on the passenger side of the firewall on your ECU. They will preload the programmer with 3 different tunes. You can get tunes for 87,89,93 octanes and you can choose if you want economy, performance, or even tow tunes. I would say the most popular are 87 Economy, 87 Performance, and 87 Tow but you can mix it up as you want. Now that I think of it I think PHP and Troyer also offers tunes on the SCT X3 if you request it. However, if you choose them you will more than likely have a hard time getting in touch with them and will be waiting for months for your programmer to arrive at your door step.

A very popular tuner on this site is the PHP Gryphon. Its basically a Edge programmer that has been custom tuned by PHP. Keep in mind if you go this route and use the Edge programmer your transmission will not be reprogrammed, only your engine. With the Edge tuners you will have the option to mount it on your dash and it will have a few gauges on there to monitor certain things. Its the same concept though you will receive it in the mail and hook it to your truck to load it. After you load it you can either leave it hooked up and mounted to your dash or you can disconnect it and do store it wherever you want.

After you read the programming section if you have any questions PM me and ill do my best to answer them for you.

Just to clarify:
Anyone reading this needs to keep in mind that when he says Edge does not tune the transmission, that is for the 6 speed in the 2009 up. edge does tune the transmission for earlier years. I do not know if PHP tunes the transmission on the Gryphons, but I would bet they do.

Good call BlueJay, I can see how someone can easily be confused.

I had a hypertech then I ugraded to a custom tuned sct xcal 3 tuned by vmp and there was a night and day difference. With the custom tunes the truck seems for responsive than with the hypertech. I got the 87 economy, 87 performance and 93 performance though I've only run the 87 perf so far

I have the same truck and yes they tune for them. I got the SCT X3 with custom tunes from 5 Star. It makes a world of difference. I can not attest to power gains as it has not been dynoed but I KNOW it drives way better!!
