When my AC is on normal when its really hot outside (temps around here around 90-100) the air is just ok, its cool and works but seems it could be colder. I have found however, if i put the settings on recirculating the air it is MUCH colder (which it should), and i find my self backing down the fan speed just after a few minutes of it being on recirculating, even if not on max ac. The same goes when im in my wife's 2010 escape.

I would also have to say that mine is just "good enough". I always have to run mine on max ac at the max fan speed for extended periods of time. My 07 gmc crew cab would cool down in just a few minutes and i could then run the fan on low. I put an ac thermometer on mine the other day and the air coming out measured 52 degrees and it was 86 outside. Im gonna try to measure it again this week with the temps closer to 100. I dont know what it will accomplish though as i doubt there is much that can be done about it.

Try leaving it on max cool but slow your fan speed down a little bit and see if the temps drop. Sometimes on the high speeds the air is moving across the coils too fast to cool down. In some cases slowing the air down actually creates cooler temps.

you all need to get those little probe thermometers and stick them into your vents.

cold for one guy can be warm for another. lets start talking real temp numbers here, not the butt dyno

We've had almost 20 days of 100+ highs here where I live in TX, the A/C in my '09 handles it just fine. My dark blue F150 sits outside for 10 hours by the time I get off of work and is cold within the 5-10 minutes it takes me to get home. Just crack your windows for a minute to let the hot air out and roll them back up. It helps a ton.

Even though I haven't measured the air temp at a lower speed I know that if I cut the fan speed down I have to cut it back up after a few minutes. I am going to be tracking mine with a thermometer for the next few days.

Ive had my 11 for a little over a week and I can say the a/c sucks. We are on day 22 of over 100 degree temps and I cannot put mine on anything less than max a/c and 4 on the fan speed. Anything less than that and it just doesnt cool the cabin. Im thinking about taking it in, as when its lower than 4 on the speed, I can really tell when the compressor kicks on and not. Its almost like an old car low on refrigerant. When the A/c cycles, I can really tell when the humid non cooled air comes through the vents.
By far, the a/c is a disappointment in this truck.

My 99 was ice cold, 04 cold, 10 gets the job done, but lacks in extreme heat, I hope this trend changes...... doubt it will though. Asked the service tech at the local dealership and he remarked that the ac has gotten weaker in every new gen f150 for the past decade.....

Do the new truck have a setting where the A/C can be set to blow on the floor and upper dash at the same time? Also, guys with the full center console that has the rear console vents, does that not help cool the truck off - does A/C air even come out of there? I still have my 99 F150 and the A/C freezes me out, and in my truck the A/C can be directed to come out at the floor to better distribute the cold air.

My '10 works great, better than my '02 did.
With the '02 Screw, (when I lived in Fresno-above 100 a lot) I used to open the windows a little (about 1 inch or so) with the AC not recirculating, going through the dash vents, for a couple of minutes to get the heat out (there's a lot of volume in our cabs).
Then I'd roll 'em up and put the AC into recirculating.
Worked good.

The real issue with the A/C is the software/flash code used to control it.
If you take a digital thermometer used in A/C work and stick it in the vent you will be surprised on what you see. If it is 90 degrees at start up at the vent, you will see the temp drop to around 75 then cycle up to around 80, then drop back down to 75, as the truck cools down, the temp drops but the cycle continues till you get about 43 degree air coming out of the vent. This can take 20 min or longer at highway speed. The problem in my opinion is the cycle controlling program. There is no way in hell it needs to cycle off at 75. Yeah at 38-40 degrees to keep the coil from freezing over but it should keep cooling till it gets close to freeze up time. I am working from home more and when I drive the truck has been in the basement so it is cool to start with. I will take it in, just in talking over the phone to the service manager there is no "fix" or re-flash to fix the problem as of now.

Mine works just fine. I wonder if the difference we are seeing is in the controls also. I have an XLT with manual controls.
