Transferring a tag to new F-150

I may go purchase a new F-150 Platinum this weekend. I'm thinking of trading in my 2002 Corvette. Can I transfer my tag from a Corvette to an F-150? I'm in Florida if that matters. I know there are weight classes and my Vette is over 2000 lbs lighter so not sure.

Thanks.

It can be done in Arkansas. Call your local DMV and/or Revenue Office, they can answer your question.

im not sure about your state but i can tell you about mine. it depends on a couple of things. your vette is a passenger vehicle. in ct here a pass vehicle has pass plates. a pass vehicle is essentially defined as a vehicle that can carry more than 2 people (meaning scabs and screws come under this classification) and does not exceed a certain gvw threshold. i was able to get pass plates for my screw when i bought it last year. lets me legally drive on the parkways no questions asked and i love it. if it was a reg cab pickup i would need to get what is called combination plates and that opens up a new can of worms when it comes to regs and where you can and cannot drive.

You can transfer your current tag to the F-150. The tag fees in Florida are based on the vehicle weight. As such, when you do the transfer, the fees will go up. Just don't use the Corvette tag until you do the transfer - just use the dealer temp tag until it's all transfered in the system.

That's what I thought. I know the tag is more because it's a heavier vehicle.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, my local DMV classified the truck as a "commercial"vehicle because the weight was greater than 5000 pounds. Not sure if there is a big difference in tag prices, but all commercial tags will expire on Dec 31st - not your birthday. Yours may or may not do it that way.

Each state is a bit different. In IL and MO you can't run passenger tags on a pickup truck, period.
