According to Car and Driver, 2009 - 2011 F150s have a 96 mph governor. 2007 and 2004 had a 100 mph governor. Chevy/GM at 99 mph or 100 mph, Dodge at 108 mph or 109 mph, Old Tundra at 106 mph, Nissan Titan at 114 mph.

2007 has a 97mph limiter. Got this from a tech at Ford and from a test that got me off on a ticket. Cop stated I was doing 99 (wasn't even close, he just decided that is what he was going to use). Had a company that does notarized documents stating max speed and speedometer tests run a test Truck topped out at 97 indicated and 94 true speed. This got me a not guilty. Still have both documents.

No. One of the reasons for the limiter is tires. LT tires are not speed rated like P series tires. LTs are an option. on the trucks Also with the high CG and P series tires which do not do as well in turns etc due to sidewalls being softer, it is a good idea for the limiter.

PS, F250 and above have a much lower max speed. Around 85.

My 2005 5.4 hit 99 then cut out, so I got a banks programmer and solved that problem. I set the limiter for 135.

This is good to know. Probably a good thing for me too.

fr8daddy, what does your truck top out at now? Will it actually hit 135?

Hmm.. Mine has 3.31 gears and I have only had it up to about 90 but it pulls hard all the way to 90. Now you have me curious. Unfortunately, I cannot test it unless I go to a track.

Watch yer tire ratings - that's one reason fer a limiter (others being unremarkable stock brakes, chitty aeros, crappy handling, lighting reach, and generally poor driver skills)

Just because you can defeat the limiter with a programmer does not magically raise yer tire speed rating, or eliminate any of the above.

BTW - to my mind - the trucks should be built to sense the presence of a trailer, and peg the limiter at 65 - that's the rating fer trailer tires. Too many morons bragging aboot how they blast on down the highway, family & dawg aboard, towing a 30 foot TT, cruise set to 80....uncaring, ignant idiots, every single one of them ....

Yeah I wouldn't test it on stock tires but my new wheels and tires should be here today. They will handle the speed but I won't be getting a programmer for awhile.

Tires may, but the brakes won't - and nothing else changes either.

Just look up any of the published stopping distance versus speed versus reaction time relationship charts.

Oh I understand. Thankfully those days are behind me. I can't afford another ticket, or jail time.
