I dropped mine at 550 and will hit the second one around 4K. After that every 5k or 6mo.

I took my '10 in when it rolled 5000 km, or 3500mi, at about 4 months old, and my dealer sent me away, said it wasn't needed, nor recommended by ford to change early. I didn't insist. Figured if the dealer was willing to send me away instead of just taking my money, I'd go with the flow. I've hit my 6 month mark twice now before coming close to the mile allowances.

After the initial change, let the monitoring system tell you when to change it. That's why they put it in.

Not to ask a dumb question, But why not let the above mentioned monitoring system pick the first oil change too? If thats why they put it in there, will it not see when the truck needs it done for the first time too ? im not sure when im gonna do my first change, Ill either follow my dealers advice or the monitoring systems.

Oil life monitoring systems basically count the number of revolutions and load the engine sees. It never analyzes the value of the oil, just engine usage. The biggest issue with these units is that they are a computer program where one fits all. Not everybody drives the same or has the same driving conditions. I would never consider trusting one of them- ask the current 3.6 GM owners who are seeing engine failures because the OLM is programmed way too far out. GM has a recall on these engines to reprogram the the unit but the damage has already been done. Ford s unit is not much different in the manner in which it monitors.

Here is one instance of oil change back stepping! I have a BMW motocycle, the same one many law enforcement agencies use. When the bike was released in 2005 they called for no oli change in the rear drive unit (lubed for life). After numerous driveline failures the proto call now is initial change at 600 Mi. and every 12,000 Mi there after. Problem solved. All these companies want to brag about low maintenance until they start having issues.

yep, no harm in every 5,000 miles or 4-5 months. Cheap insurance if you ask me.
