I used a threaded hose clamp on the passenger side hinge where it slides out to remove the tailgate.

There is also this out there...

I would love to catch someone trying to steal something from my truck

Jimmi' Jammer makes a guard, the "Gate Keeper", that makes it much harder to get the tailgate off too. You need a special tool to remove the guard. http://www.jimmijammer.com/

I've installed Jimmi' Jammer plates on all my doors, the bed gate and over the hood latch.

I'll point out that simply locking your tailgate will reduce the likelihood of it being stolen also.

Great, another thing to worry about! Seems to be a hot item around here.

Hopefully my Undercover tonneau isn't very easy to pry up to get the tailgate open. The tailgate and tonneau are always locked and my paging alarm is armed. Should be good enough deterrent that a thief would move along to an easier target.

I'd like to add a couple of the jimmijammer parts to the truck too (or something similar). Some of them look like they'd be easy to make with the band saw and metal brake at work.

This was a big issue where I lived back in 1994-95. We installed worm clamps on the left and right tailgate hinges. It makes it a little more time consuming to remove your tailgate that way. Hopefully the thieves will pass on it when they realize it isn't going to be that easy to remove. I guess it's time to perform this mod on my Gen. 1 L and my '11 STX.
