Ordered a 2011 FX4 this morning

Shopped around to 5 local dealers over the past few weeks. Managed to get a candy red 2011 FX4 EcoBoost with the luxury package and tailgate step for $1200 below invoice. Did I do good?

Was told 8-12 weeks for delivery.

Only problem is you'll never know what the real invoice price is!

Sweet! I saw a candy red 5.0 FX4 around town the other day and it was sharp looking! It made the color look completely different from my Dad's candy red edge..

I look at it this way, if you feel good about it you did good. In my book anything under invoice price is good!

There are so many factors that go into the price and actual dealer cost one man's great deal in Anne Arbor Maine may never be as good as someone say in Kansas City Missouri where they are made due to the freight charges alone. With the constant changes in incentives from ford and the dealer etc it's almost impossible to make a direct apples to apples comparison unless you both buy exactly the same configuration on the exact same day.

So enjoy your truck and feel good about the price you paid and stop looking at threads like this and you'll stay happy.

first offer from the dealer i've been talking to is ~$1500 under invoice (using edmunds for invoice), shooting for another grand off though. 2 dealers i've talked to about 2010's had no problem eating into their hold back so that's what i'm shooting for for a 2011

Of the 5 dealers in the area, nobody would go less than $1000 below invoice. When I told the other dealers of the offer, they actually told me to buy it. I even got them to waive the ~$450 processing fee as well. I just hope there will be some good rebates/promotions when it gets here.

In the end, I think I came out ok.

DaveK did you look at ubs4cars.com? It's a free co-op buying group in the MD-DC-NOVA area. It's free to use, they tell you to go to dealer X and email you a buying cert # (they mail a copy of it as well).

How it works:
You go to dealer X, you get a price for everything priced at invoice.
There's no charge for destination, but there is a $100 up charge from the dealer.
Then you take ALL the discounts on top of that.

So even with the dealer's $100 service charge your starting below invoice due to the $800-900 destination charges your avoiding, then you have 2-3K in discounts/rebates on top of that. No haggling involved. I've used them for the past 3-4 vehicle purchases. They even audit the deal after you buy and will get you any rebates you missed.

I have found in the past the UBS price was generally 1-2K lower than the Xplan prices last time I priced both. With the rebates being a bit more agressive this year may be more than that now.

If that is before rebates, you did great. With rebates; congrats you are getting the truck I wish I could have got last year.

That doesn't matter. I live in KC and mine was built in KC, still got had to pay $975 destination and delivery. Only benefit was, it was delivered to dealer the same week it was built--three weeks total from order to delivery (2010 model, ordered Sept 2009).

Correction The price is the "negotiated" rate, apparently some items are less than invoice, going over my paperwork I paid $165 for the max tow package which is around $469 on invoice per Edmonds.

Never heard of it but will look into it the next time I buy a new car. Thanks for the tip!

8 to 12 weeks is brutal..

ya you did good on $1200 below invoice.. i bet they hit you with a dealer fee though, but hopefully the rebates in 8 to 12 weeks are HUGE considering the price of fuel going up and it will be harder to sell trucks.

Hey Dave -
I just got my 11' Red Candy 2 wks ago. I order it wk before x-mas and it took 10-11wks. I order the FX4 5.0. make sure you get the $1000 rebate for the lux pkg. Also if you finance with Ford you'll get another 500 or 1000 off. All said and done I paid 39.300 fully loaded. I knew the sales mgr. You'll love the truck, hope you got black interior. Im having LED lights installed next week and the Plasmaglow tailgate light done. I have pic in my album.
BTW. the truck is well worth the wait. good luck!
