Edit: Sorry. I read your PM after posting. Thanks.
I've also been wondering how the road noise is with duratracs? I'm considering them for my next set. I wish there was more to choose from in the aggressive AT/snow rated realm

I dont have a lot to compare to so its hard to say. I got the dealer to buy the stock tires and but these on the day I picked up the truck. Not one person who has been in my truck has said the tires were noisy. I also have a 1999 Explorer which has simple AT tires, there is little difference I notice between the two.

I was worried about the noise but can say for sure that I am happy how it turned out. I would get them again and I noticed that in the small town I live in there have been a lot more of these tires being purchased and thrown on.

Man I wish they made 295/xx/20 tires. I just got 285/55/20 Hankooks for my truck.
They're not even mounted yet.

You didn't see my post on the first page? 295/60/20 is a 34" high and perfect size IMO. I have a buddy with a 2010 SC 4x4 with leveling kit and these size tires. Looks amazing. I do believe, however, that the Nitto Terra Grapplers are about the only tire available in this size. But I have had that tire before and they ride GREAT, are quiet, and will last about 60,000 miles.

I guess I missed that.

I've been all over and up & down the sites for Nitto, Toyo, Hankook, and a few others looking for the right tire. I was going to do the 305/55/20's but they were a little bigger than I was shooting for.

The tires I got are only about an inch taller than stock, so that'll keep my gearing ratio pretty close to stock. I wanted to have very little effect on the handling of the truck but go a bit wider than stock on the tire. a 295/50 or 295/55 would have been perfect.

I'll go back to the nitto site and look again. I must've just looked right over that 295/60 tire.

At least I'll know for next time!

I installed a 2" AS level kit, 275/75R18 BF TA/KO's at 65,000 miles, and must report that in combination with the winter Iowa weather (I don't idle my truck to warm it up, usually just start it and go after 15 seconds) my fuel economy has plummeted.

Pre level kit, tires, through October my average fuel economy was 16.4mph. Since the install, I am now running am average of 12.56mpg. I use a Droid app to track all of my vehicle expenses, so the mileage is fill calculated, not using the truck's display. I've rotated the tires once, and have 72,000 on the truck currently. 95% of my miles are highway/interstate miles. I run 89 E10 phillips 66 fuel year round.

So, in summary, the cold weather fuel, snow, new tires, and level kit dropped my fuel economy by 23% in the past 7,000 miles of driving. I'll watch to see the effect of summer blend fuel later this spring...

If your stock tires were 275/65/18 and you went to a 275/75/18 without calibrating odometer/speedometer for the tire change, you're going 6.8% farther than you're giving yourself credit for so the mileage wouldn't be as bad as calculated?

2011 FX4 Screw. Anyone know what my options are for a 33" tire without a level?

Read a bit and sounds like there could be issues if I install a level so hoping to find out my options. Maybe a body lift is available rather than leveling if I must. But hopefully I don't in order to:
1) Tire only to install on stock (18") wheels with little rubbing and no level during winter
2) Tire and wheel that will give it a wider stance with little rubbing and not level during summer

Is this achievable?

A 285x65x18 would work great.

I'm not exactly what size tire you need...but I highly recommend the Toyo Open Country M/T. It is great looking, quiet on the street, great offroad, and will last about 40,000 miles if you take care of them. The only bad this is that they are $$$ and heavy. But they look and ride great!

The duratracs don't make that much noise but are some of the worst tires i have ever run. lots of flats due to punctures.they chunked like crazy and i only got about 25,000 km. i do lots of off highway driving so if you are only going to use them on road you mite be ok.

First bad review I have read.

You running a level or lift? And what size tire?

Back to the topic...

I run a 305-55-20 Mickey Thompson ATZ on stock 20's for the winter... and they rub the front sway bar on the driver side at full lock; forward and reverse on flat ground. Stick with a 295 max or you will want to run spacers with a very aggressive tire with side tread.

i was running them on my company work truck. a stock (POS) 2006 GMC 2500 HD. tire size was 285/75R16. a couple other guys at work had them on there trucks to and had the same type of experience with them.none of them liked them.
