Locking Tailgate Mod

Anyone done the locking tailgate lock mod in the 09 or newer truck? I have done a couple 04-08's but not a 09 or newer yet and I have a couple of guys at work who want it done. My question is if anyone knows if the wiring in the passenger floor is the same color code as the 04-08's?

He is talking about putting the power door lock on the tailgate. I have seen some people trying it but not sure if they got it to work. I would be interested to know if it works with the step as well.

I was thinking about that the other day. I wish ford would have it tied into the doors. I have been told by multiple people that you need to keep the tailgate locked since it is so easy to take off and steal when it is not locked.

I keep mine locked, I would be interested in seeing a power locking tailgate, even though I have no practical use for one.

I took a HD hose clamp of about 1-3/4 - 2" size and put it on the right side hinge of my tailgate tightening the screw with a small ratchet sat an angle not easily reached with a screw driver.

I lock it also, but even if I forget, I have the clamp there. Also, no accidents that way.

Thats exactly what I've done to all the trucks I have owned

I'm buying a 2011 some time in the next few months (impatiently awaiting the EB). I guess this would be a nice addition.

Yes, what I mean is, I add a power door actuator to the tailgate to make it a power lock. I tie it to the power door locks. I have been wiring them to the passenger door lock, the wires are in the passenger floor. I am needing to know if wire color code for the wire are the same as the 04-08. It is a pretty easy mod.

I did my 04 as well and it is one of my favorite mods. I hope it is easy to do on my 2011 with the tailgate step. I am not sure why but in that other thread they were saying the key didn't work. In my truck with just the actuator my key works fine. I guess I will see when I get my 2011.

The key worked in the ones I did also. I did have one I tied to tightly to the locking arm and had to loosen to get the key to work freely.
