OK, guys from the horses mouth, I was on the test drive and the young lady told me I was going to get the 36 gallon tank on my 4X4 Platinum ecoboost. I told her that I was told it couldn't be ordered with the 36 gallon tank. This seems to have changed now! WOO HOO! See note below as I asked my dealer to speak with the regional sales manager as my truck was ordered back in Oct but he was only able to get the 26 Gallon tank, there was no 36 Gallon option. This was his response today.

"Ok sorry about the delay on getting back to you. I wanted to make sure we had the right information. You are correct in the 4x4 has the 36 gal tank which is now standard. They updated the order guides after we already ordered yours. Also Joe was telling me you wanted to see about changing the ext. color is that correct? "

As far as color I think I will stick with White, I was interested in the silver but just wasn't sure.

 

Thanks for posting this! I'm planning on going into my local dealership in the morning and ordering my new rig.....although it won't make much of a difference as to whether I order or not, it's good to now information.

I just got off the phone with the saleman I'm working with, and he says he will check it for me and verify in the morning.

 

Interesting. I wonder if this is for all 4x4s or just the Platinum.

 

The lady that originally told me this was saying it was the default tank on all 4X4 ecoboost trucks. She did say it had to do with overall lenght of the truck though. She also said it would be an option on the 4X2 trucks as well as long as there was enough room for the larger tank.

 

Great news!!! 600 to 900 miles per tank is much more than anyone is getting now between fill ups.

That's a good decision on their part for sure; most likely because the EB came back with such poor MPG numbers, they realized at this point it would make virtually no difference and that the bigger tank would at least make some goodwill with those who might be considering the EB engine vs the 5.0 (with the 5.o having near identical MPG AND the 36 tank, compared to the EB with small tank before).

I'm so tired of people saying the fuel economy is so poor. ANYTHING in the 20's for mpg is EXCELLENT. I guess because now it does have the larger tank, you needed to be let down with the fuel economy.

Like the guys above me said - I do hope you're implying "poor" numbers with regards to the hype vs. actual numbers.

If I can achieve 23 or better on the highway in a crew cab truck with 420 ft-lbs on tap, I'm a happy camper.

I've said it in other threads, but my current Ranger with the 4.0 averages 17 mpg with mixed driving. Worst tank was 14.5, best was just over 19. Bring on the "poor" mileage of the EB!!

 

What's the big deal about the tank size? When the 36 gal tank is full, you are hauling more weight - not good for performance or mpg. And I suspect most gas stations will not support the $'s needed to fill it because of the maximum $ approval ( at least the stations I use in my area - $75 max per approval and one only allows a credit card use once per day). I am perfectly fine with my "little" tank.

Many would not run it empty and totally fill it unless towing long distances. 22x36 = almost 800 miles range on hwy... 11 x 36 = under 400 miles range towing which would be great. And you could use trucking in field and hunting all day after driving there w/o worrying about gas now.

 

I know I would. I have a long daily commute, and my current civic gets 300 miles a tank (30mpg) - I have to fill up about 3 times every 2 weeks. If I could swap that for once every 2 weeks, I would be a very happy camper.

My commute - about 85 miles/day ~ 500 miles a week, assuming I don't go out to lunch, or make any side trips on the way home...

Edit - also - 35 gallons * $3 a gallon = $105 Most stations in my area cut off at $125, so I am fine there too...
