It must be a drag being treated like a thief when you buy gas. Having to pay up front=they assume you're going to fill up and drive off.

I think the 36 gallon is standard on 4x4 but 26 is Standard on 4x2 but I am sure you could get 26 in the 4x4 if you wanted.

I am perfectly fine with my "little" tank.

I've never used a card to pay for gas. I also pay in advance every time in cash. They wont kill the tap until the money runs out and many stations knock 2 cents off a gallon.

I use my credit card and the limit is $75. However as soon as it shuts off, I reinsert the SAME credit card and fill it up the rest of the way. If your credit card company limits you to one fill up a day I would be changing companies

Do you really think that an extra 10 gallons of gas which weighs 60 lbs is going to make a difference? Maybe on your ET on a dragstrip but economy wise you would never notice it. Now cut out 500 lbs and you might see 1-2 mpg

The nice thing about the bigger tank is having to stop to get gas less often. My old '96 had a 16 gallon tank that you had to fill up every 170-200 miles which was pretty annoying because I'd be filling up 2 or 3 times a week. Now with my 36 gall. tank 250 miles is a little less than half a tank and only filling up once a week.

More Confirmation

This is directly from Ford during their live chat after the ecoboost teardown 15JAN2011:

[Comment From Bryan ]
Does the 4x4 EcoBoost truck come with the 36 gallon tank? Buyers have been requesting this.

Jim (Ford Rep): Bryan - It will be an option on the Super Crew

Yep. That settles it once and for all. This is Rambo. (I had to sign up for another account.) That was my question that Jim answered in the chat. With the extended range tank available on EB, this is pretty much the perfect truck right now!

Edit:
PS Here is a link if you want to read the rest of the chat: http://fb.me/xJqxzIRr

They are doing another one next week.

Was there a fact I stated somewhere that has been debunked?

I put over 600 miles per 36 gallon tank on my 2010 Supercab 4x4 twice last winter in temps between 10 and 25 degrees (618 and 630 miles as I recall) and I still had at least two or three gallons remaining when I filled up. Elevation was gained on both legs and wind was light (slight headwind most of the way).

It has the 3 valve 4.6L V8 with 3.73 diff. and slightly wider and taller tires than OEM. No trailer or canopy (just a bed cover). But no one is going to be getting 900 miles on a tank (even with the ecoboost) in a 2011 F-150! On the return trip I was towing a two-horse trailer with tackroom and fuel economy dropped to 14-15 mpg (but I had very cold temps and a nasty sidewind). The engine has plenty of power for towing, rarely use it all, even climbing mountain passes (although I wasn't much above 6-7000 feet or so).

Let me reword that. More than what most 5.4's are getting and the 600 range was for the lower end non-highway. Up to 900 on the upper end is possible. 25mpg x 36g = 900 give or take a few miles if you wanted to leave some in reserve. At 21 it would be 750+/-. 23 x 36 = 828. 24 x 36 = 864 miles.

The other guy has an interesting point about the Super Duty. The diesel Super Duty has a 26 gallon tank except for the 8' bed supercab or 8' bed supercrew. It is kind of hard for someone to say you can't do long distance with a 26 gallon tank if the Super Duty has the 26 gallon tank and gets less mileage.

Maybe the math works, but the only people that will get 25mpg will be those that drive in-town like granny and max out at 61 on the freeway....
