Yes, but for towing the EB or 6.2 is the way to go.

 

The Raptor will tow just fine, as long as you have it setup right and you aren't hauling a 20K lb horse trailer. The Supercrew Raptor will tow a good size boat or trailer no problem, it's just the suspension that is the limiting factor.

For his snowmobile trailer, it should be no issue with a Raptor Supercrew. My vote is for the Raptor, but I'm biased

 

What are the official towing ratings for the Raptor? That's what counts.

 

The 20111 models I believe are going with Impulse engines in the base model and Warp Core engines as the upgrade.

 

8000lbs for the Supercrew, not far off the 5.0 ratings. Obviously less than the 11K rating for the 6.2 or Ecoboost with Max tow, but still enough for most jobs. The Supercab Raptor has a 6000lb rating and a lot of the guys have had no problem towing a snowmobile trailer etc.

The Raptor's only limitation is the "soft" suspension with the Fox shocks. Otherwise it's the same truck and 6.2 motor.

IMHO, once you test drive a 6.2 F150, you will want it on the spot. I loved the Ecoboost motor, but the 6.2 pulls much harder up top and the sound really can't be beat, even with the stock exhaust. One of Ford's best sounding engines in a long time.

 

Yeah but who would want to buy a truck after listening to its idle and driving it for a few miles? I'm sure once you see that fuel bill you'll start to realize how bad 12 mpg is. I sure as hell don't want to change 16 spark plugs, either.

For me, my preference for these new engines:

3.5L V6
5.0L V8
3.7L V6
6.2L V8

25 mpg is pretty damn good for a 4WD V6.

 

If your dad is all about lifts and the look of such, then the Raptor is not for him. You wont be lifting that truck.

The Raptor's suspension is completely different from the other trucks, above and beyond the shocks...that's not the only difference. No comparison between the two.

 

If somebody can afford a Raptor in these economic times, trust me they are not worried about the price of gas!.........

What truck is getting 25mpg? The 2wd 3.7L V6 will get at most 23mpg.

The spark plugs aren't too bad, nothing worse than the 97-2003 5.4, especially on the Lightnings which were almost impossible to get to the back 2.

As for gas mileage, these are trucks, not a Prius. Does my Raptor get worse mileage than the Ecoboost, sure, I knew that when I bought it instead of a FX4 with the Ecoboost. We know we aren't buying a 40mpg econo car.

The 5.0 is a great base motor, but once you drive the Ecoboost or 6.2, you won't want to go back to the 5.0.

 

Yes, I did miss that...but guess I misread your post that I quoted...you made it sound like you were saying the only difference was the shocks. My bad.

 

Ford's PR says the 2011 EB FX4 gets 16/25.

 

EPA says 15/21 unless the first batch of window stickers are wrong.

 

14/20 for 4X4 with 3.73.

If it was 16/25, it would have been a no brainer to buy the Ecoboost. They wouldn't be able to keep them in stock for a truck that towed 11K lbs while getting 25mpg unloaded.
