Okay 2011 owners only reply...

I'm looking to see how the payloads have changed for 2011. I'll most likely need a Tow Max equipped truck, I'm sure, but I'd like to be sure as I'd like to consider a 5.0L truck if I need to purchase one before the 3.5L EcoBoost comes out. Unfortunately, the Max Tow isn't available with the 5.0L, and the 6.2L is too thirsty for my tastes.

Please report the payload (cargo capacity) as shown on the yellow sticker on the lower B-pillar of your SUPERCREW. Please report the following:

Model: XLT, Lariat, Platinum, etc.
Bed Length: 5.5 foot or 6.5 foot
Engine: 5.0L, 6.2L, or EcoBoost
TowMax Package or not
Wheel Size: 17, 18, or 20 inch (factory issued)
Rear End: 3.55, 3.74. Limited slip, etc.

The GVWR for the 6.5' is 7350 lbs so the additional 150 lbs on the front axle makes sense.

Now, what options are on your truck because they makes a huge difference what the payload will be. Include all your individual options as well as the optional packages.

My 5.0L XLT SCREW 4x4 6.5' has these options:

Hope I won't get in trouble bumping this to the top, but I'm very interested in seeing someones payload "with" the Max Tow Package with the 2010 5.4L or the 2011 models. On 2011s, you'll only get Max Tow Package with Lariet and above with 6.2L, or with other trim levels and the Ecoboost engine. The 6.2L with the Max tow will likely have lower payload than an XLT with regular tow because of the heavier trim levels on top of the heavier axle, wheels, and bumper the Tow Max has.

The 2010 payload with a 5.4L should only be 50 lbs less than a similar 2011 with the 5.0L. The 5.4L supposedly weighs 50 lbs less and is supported in the 2011 vs 2010 payload specs.

 

Which config?

For example:

2010 SCrew 6.5 5.4L reg tow GVWR of 7,200

2011 SCrew 6.5 6.2L max tow GVWR of 7,700 (GAWR also higher)

6.2L is 190 lbs heavier than 3.5EB. 5.0L is 160lbs lighter than a 6.2L. Max tow gets you more room that that.

 

With the 6.2L, the Max Tow Payload is 1770 lbs which is only 210 lbs more than a 5.0L with standard tow. This being Crew Cab 5.5' bed. The Ecoboost is better at 1960 lbs, so it has 400 lbs more payload than a 5.0L . Looks like the 6.2L engine option is a lose/lose situation. A lot more thirsty, power at a lot more rpms, and now you lose payload.

With the Ecoboost, since it can be had with either tow package, it gains 370 lbs payload with the Max tow while the Difference in GVWR (7650# with Max, 7200# with standard) is 450 lbs. So looks like the Max tow components are 80 lbs heavier than the Standard tow components.

The above calculations are done from fords specs on their site.

If you get the max tow package, the Ecoboost is the obvious best choice!

Now here's something. From some F150 forums, owners who had a 2010 5.4L Crew Cab with 5.5' bed, and the "MAX Tow package", had axle ratings for the Front at 3900 lbs and the rear at 4050 lbs. Now that's 7950 lbs. Subtract the payload spec of 7675# (remember 2010 5.4L Spec) and you only have a difference between the axle total and GVWR = 275 lbs.

Now for the standard tow 2010 5.4L 5.5' the front axle is 3750 lbs, rear is 3850 lbs = 7600 lbs. GVWR is 7200 lbs. That combined axle rating of 7600 lbs - 7200 = 400 lbs spread. Seems either the GVWR is rated under it's potential, compared to axle ratings, with the standard tow package or the Max tow GVWR is rated over it's potential. Since Max tow package weight balance and braking aren't changed, I don't see how the handling is affected to gain that extra 125#s of payload in reference to axle rating totals.

Maybe axle ratings will be different with the Ecoboost engine. The 6.2L will undoubtedly be higher rated on the front axle to handle the extra weight of the engine.

 

The rear axle rating (4050#) is the highest available on any of the F-150 trucks... most likely the Max Tow. I just read some literature somewhere, and I'll be darned if I can remember where. I'll post as soon as I recover from the senoritis.

I currenty have a 2010 with the 4050 pound rear GAWR and I have the Max Tow Package. My loaded Lariat (6.5 foot bed) comes in at a about 1,640 pounds. I just looked at a 2011 loaded Lariat and it was only at 1250 without the Max Tow and the 5.0L. I still need to have the Max Tow
