Drove 2011 Lariat 5.0 yesterday

I've had a 2011 for two weeks now. The interior was a major selling point. Pedals are adjustable, wheel is telescoping.
I bought a Raptor though (black interior), which has a completely different wheel and absolutely no wood. I still think the FX4 has the best looking interior though. Have never cared for wood in vehicles unless it's real and well done.
In my opinion, go look at an FX4. The only nice-to-have option I've found that's missing compared to the Lariat is the cooled seats. Then again I like the monochromatic look.

I like the interior look of the FX4, but like you said, no cooled seats which I think would be, well ... cool
... I also like the chrome look of the Lariat on the outside (with the chrome package) better. I do hate that blonde wood in the Lariat though .. (What was Ford thinking?) Still wanting to know what the cost would be to change out the blonde wood for maybe the FX trim pieces. Anyone know?

I still cannot get over this truck... is seems so different to me than the 2005 F150 King Ranch I had. I never had any hang-ups on that interior. Also, the Audiophile sound system was TOP NOTCH in that King Ranch. The new, 2011 F150 has the Sony stuff and it sounded AWFUL. Why did Ford ever go away from Audiophile??? I could not hurt that sound system... it was AWESOME!!!!
Also, anyone notice the cheesy sunshade for the sunroof? It seems like a piece of cardboard that is textured. This is another example of the cheapness of the interior. It seems like these were made by the same assembly plant in the movie Gung HO!!!!!
Also, side note about 2010 and up Ford products in general. Has anyone other than me noticed that Ford has definitely cut corners around their vehicles? I love my wife's new Taurus Limited, and in going over it, there are obvious things where they really cut corners compared to previous vehicles. These are mainly items just beneath the surface and things that the mainstream consumer doesn't consider value added. I believe this is exactly how Ford got its profitability back in order. If you look at other manufacturers, they have not removed these features/designs and their prices are just a bit higher, and sales just a bit lower than Ford. In my mind, Ford cheaped out the F150, and went too far for my liking. The current pricing model used by Ford does not provide a good deal for what the consumer actually gets. The current supplier pricing on vehicles falls more in line with what the MSRP really should be. I have decided not to buy and will keep my current vehicles.

I'm the loan blue-blooded truck guy amongst all of my friends. Every time I ride in one of their Dodge or Chevy trucks, I'm reminded why I have always driven Ford.

I'm sorry to be the one telling you this... But Ford quality have been going UP for a couple of year.

You know the saying about opinions... I trade Fords every couple years & have seen nothing but improvements. I've had 2 audiophile systems & on my 2nd Sony. It is the best by far for a stock system. I also give the other manufacturers a look when it's time to trade but haven't seen anything since my '97 Ford to make me change. I average around 40K a year & they have all been good trucks.

My '07 underhood paint was thin, light colored - spotty paint and no clearcoat. My '11 is fully painted under the hood, no light spots anywhere and appears to be clearcoated. I do prefer the design of the '07 Dash over the '11 dash.

I did not say that Quality had dropped... My point was that features underneath the surface have been removed that were traditionally there. Some items where corners were cut/cheapened just leave a cheesy feel for the inside of the truck.. good examples were the sunroof shade and the Sony sound system. The rough textured door panels, and steering wheel are other cheapened items.

I had a 2002 f-150 and I liked the solid feel and the interior, but the drivetrain sucked. Weak engine, and sloppy tranny and a way to tall rear end gear.
My 2010, I really like the drivetrain a lot. Love the 6 speed. But cant say much for the build quality, or the solid feel. Body panels are ridiculously thin. Cab shutters when you hit bumps and windshield squeaks over wash boards.
Wish I had the old cab and new drivetrain.

What I wanna know is how the 5.4 3v a crappy motor but the 5.4 2v is great? You put both motors in an identical truck and the 3v 5.4 will run circles around the 2v 5.4. The extra weight and drive by wire bull**** takes some of the spunk away from the 3v 5.4 though.
