Everything else has the regular 9.75" rear end with the exception of the ecoboost which is getting a heavier axle due to it's torque breaking the pinion gear in the standard rear ends.
Everything else in the tow v.s. max tow are the same except you get some different bushings and a different steering ratio- big deal!
Both have larger radiators and tranny coolers.
You can't "build" a max tow truck on your own.

- Ford quite adding the 4th leaf with 20's and/or max tow During 20110 MY. However I'm told by dealer those 3 have diff part # than the 3 leafs on a non max tow with 18's. Ford says they saved 7lbs a side by going from 4 to 3 with same capability.
- GAWR is higher with max tow vs. non. In some cases by 200lbs.
- We have no "confirmation" of stronger rear axle with EB. We have guy from plat advising us of this on the web. Unless I've missed something in which case pls post. I want to see it too.
- Yes you can add a leaf, a superspring or airbag but that won't change your GAWR or GVWR sticker in your door jam. If that worked I could go buy a new ram (or any brand) and do the same thing and say I have the highest towing half ton around...
- Legal payloads (with SCrews) are just much too low and worst in class without max tow pkg. Thats why they added them in '10.
- Up in Canada we don't have to get the TT mirrors with the max tow so its not such a big deal. No downside.

I don't worry about the GAWR or GVWR sticker. I have had three 1/2 tons over the year and know what they can do. As I said earlier there is a margin of safety built in.
In over 30 years I have never been stopped and had some one check the sticker. The only way that it might come into place is if you had an accident involving a trailer then they might do some investigating but you would have to be way over loaded for them to even start looking. The only thing that they watch us farmers for doing is to used untaxed red diesel fuel in your truck. They are known to check every farm truck at livestock auctions for the off road fuel.

Do they make TT's stop at weigh stations? they don't farm trailers. heck we don't need license plates on our farm trailers nor brake/tail lights except at night.

As far as the heavier axles for the ecoboost go, the only thing that I have saw on that is the poster on Blue Oval that said that he worked for Sterling Axle and that heavier axles with larger pinion shaft and bearings were being put in the ecoboosts. For some reason Ford will not release the changes that they have made to the trucks that make them different from the 2010s- I mean the stuff that you can't see- different frame materials, etc. One Ford employee mentioned several changes that they had made to lose weight but no one will tell what they are.

Power Kid, when are you ordering? I am still waiting on EPA numbers but am getting ready. I requested my X plan PIN from Ford yesterday.

I am looking at SCAB XLT 6.5' bed, 4x4, ecoboost, max tow, xlt conv, xlt plus, camera, securicode keypad- not sure about the chrome package yet though I do want running boards and either aluminum or chrome wheels

That's great! I've got 12 years of experience with them and know how they handle different weights too. However, it is not wise to tell any arbitrary person (read: idiot) on the Internet to exceed the manufacturer ratings for their vehicles.

Damn, that's a sweet deal. KBB lists my '09 Platinum SuperCrew 4x4 with 15,000 miles at 30-31k. So to get that on a Lariat is super-sweet.
