Remember that this is my very first auto tranny -as a seasoned citizen !! Anytime I mentioned lag to people they made no comment ! Only when this thread started did I learn that lag is wrong !So I went to the service guy and said please remove lag . He then downloaded latest software and rebooted . That's all . Works very well now.
I don't understand this business about driving it for two weeks so the computer can learn how I drive. I drive according to conditions .If there were 4 in my family all different drivers how would the computer deal with that ??? Some vehicles have switches for different modes -sport, economy etc. In fact mine has the tow package .Push the tow button and the tranny changes shift points and duration more appropriate for towing . That I understand !
Anyway I'm a happy driver now .Thanks for educating me.

I just had the TSB reprogramming of the PCM and TCM for the tranny. I didn't have too much of a lag issue most of the time just occasionally. Mine was a late Mar 10 build and needed the reprogramming. Much smoother and responsive so far. They said that the adaptive part would start anew. So far so good.

Immediate improvement !!! Gone is the dreaded 2 second lag ! Things seem to be smoother in general but I'm supposed to drive it for about two weeks so the computer gets used to my driving !! Then I'll get a better idea of the new set-up.
Do you know what this programming or upgrade is called so I can somewhat look like I know what Im talking about when I go to the dealer for this issue? Im afraid if I just go complaining about throttle response the good ol country boy service manager is gonna tell me its because its a truck not a race car or some bs like that!

I can't help you there but they should always upgrade things with the latest software -- just like Windows does !

Just tell them to check for any TSBs on the truck. I told mine that when starting out from a stop with slow acceleration it felt like the tranny was shifting up/down or maybe slipping. I told them there was a TSB out on the tranny for 2010s.

Service response/cause: Road test cold. Feel surge between shifts, clear trans KAM and reprogram PCM and TCM per TSB 10-24-1. Road tests OK, (N/C)

I did the "diamondbird" last night. Have been anxious to to do it but with all the snow there was no point, wanted to test it on dry roads. Let me say I feel like I picked up 50 horsepower! The 5.4 feels alive! I stomped on it pretty hard, didn't floor it because the wheels would have just spun, and it took off like never before. This is with crap winter gas so I am anxious to test it this spring once we get the good gas back.

Thanks diamondbird

Here are the steps again:

1) turn the key in the ON position (don't start the engine),
2) press the gas pedal down slowly all the way down,
3) let go of the gas pedal fast so it come back up,
4) turn key into the OFF position,
repeat steps 1-4 two more times then start engine.

This is called "The Diamondbird" mod after the screen name of the guy who 'invented' it over on another forum and it should work on ANY fuel injected vehicle...including your motorcycles!

I had the same problem with My 05 Xlt, I had bad Injectors and bad COPs. After getting those fixed it ran ok, I went and Installed a S&B CAI, and it woke the 5.4 Right up, No More bogging down or Blank spots in the Throttle.

I also installed a Banks Engineering Programer on it.

good Luck & Happy Holidays

I did it to the wifes 2010 Screw and it seems to have helped. It was almost scary to pull out into traffic the way it was. Mark

This may sound stupid, but if you do this "Mod", is there a way to go back to the original settings if you don't like the "new" feel/response??

I think the adaptive process will eventually dial it back, seemed to for me at least.
