Door Check Replacement?

Last week while in Oklahoma the wind was blowing pretty hard all night around 50 MPH. The fire alarm went off at about 4AM so I had to go outside wait for the fire department to clear the building where Im staying It was so cold and miserable I decided to sit in my truck during that time. When I opened the door to go back to my room, the wind was blowing so hard that it yanked the door out of my hand and hyper extended the door

I called the ford dealer and I think I need to replace the black plastic hinge in the middle. Its called a door check, designed to give out first before your main hinges do. Its a $22 part. Wont be in until Tuesday and has to be shipped up from Ft Worth Texas

The door check makes a loud popping noise when I open the door and it is coming from that piece, since I have verified that it pops. No damage has been done to the main hinges or door.

Am I heading in the right direction with this and is the door check hard to replace?

Make them fix it. You didn't break it. The different settings they have to where it stops are horrible.

Wind damage like this can mess a door all up. Some pics would be helpful

It the door when closed looks like nothing happen the hinges and door frame are ok and you might just need the closure which is more then likey what is make the noise

Also to replace it youll need to take off the door panel I think I'll have to look at it tmr

main hinges and door frame is ok. The door seems to open very slighty more then it use to but the hinges are ok.

What is the closure? u lost me with that

EDIT: The lines and creases still match up and still look perfect from the factory

I'm surprised the plastic assembly held up protecting the hinges.

It's the black metal rod the goes from the door to cab between the hinges, it's what stop the door from opening to far and also holds it open

I went to dealer today to pick up my new door check. I had a body shop Tech come out and show how to replace it.

It turns out that the wind grabbed the door so hard that the very front of the door where the crease is actually made contact with the hing and dinged it in 2 places. It is so small that it is hardly noiceable unless your right up on it.. He also pointed out to me by comparing the drivers side crease to the passenger crease that it actually pulled the outer shell in very slightly just a few millimeters. He noticed it and I never did so he had to show it to me in order for me to see it.

Its in the center where the door check is located so I am hoping the new door check straightens is out. He told me if it doesnt, he knows a few tricks and offered to do it for free. I didn't even buy the truck there. What an awesome dealership!!

New door check not so good

I am certain the people that design these things don't drive them. The doors on my old 06 had two stopping points for opening the door in tight places. Now my 2-10 and thats wide open. Has one anyone had anyluck using a door check from a expediton or older F-150?

"They" didn't break it, nor was it a factory defect. You are a Democrat, huh?
