Door Check Replacement?

Last week while in Oklahoma the wind was blowing pretty hard all night around 50 MPH. The fire alarm went off at about 4AM so I had to go outside wait for the fire department to clear the building where Im staying It was so cold and miserable I decided to sit in my truck during that time. When I opened the door to go back to my room, the wind was blowing so hard that it yanked the door out of my hand and hyper extended the door
I called the ford dealer and I think I need to replace the black plastic hinge in the middle. Its called a door check, designed to give out first before your main hinges do. Its a $22 part. Wont be in until Tuesday and has to be shipped up from Ft Worth Texas
The door check makes a loud popping noise when I open the door and it is coming from that piece, since I have verified that it pops. No damage has been done to the main hinges or door.
Am I heading in the right direction with this and is the door check hard to replace?

I went to dealer today to pick up my new door check. I had a body shop Tech come out and show how to replace it.
It turns out that the wind grabbed the door so hard that the very front of the door where the crease is actually made contact with the hing and dinged it in 2 places. It is so small that it is hardly noiceable unless your right up on it.. He also pointed out to me by comparing the drivers side crease to the passenger crease that it actually pulled the outer shell in very slightly just a few millimeters. He noticed it and I never did so he had to show it to me in order for me to see it.
Its in the center where the door check is located so I am hoping the new door check straightens is out. He told me if it doesnt, he knows a few tricks and offered to do it for free. I didn't even buy the truck there. What an awesome dealership!!

The door check strap is an easy proposition. There are you-tube videos of how to remove the door panel, watch them first if you have never taken one apart. From there, the strap is 2 nuts on the inside, and one bolt on the outside. You can do it.

Were you successful in getting your door to stop to function better. I don't know how old this post is but I have a 2010 f150 super Crew and the door opens way to fast in my opinion. I'm trying to find out if they updated the part. My poor wife can't manage the door and jumping in/out cause it's 4x4 on top of that. Thanks for any replies
