LED Bulbs instead of replacing entire tail lights, Good or Bad Idea?

Doing my research here before pulling the final trigger on my 2011 FX2 with the EB engine. I see the cost of the entire LED tail lights and then i see the cost of just replacing the single bulbs (reverse, turns) with the LED cluster ones and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these and could share the good and the bad about them.
Thanks in advance for your help

I did this exact same thing about 8 months after having the truck. I replaced the rear stop/turn/running, backup, license plate, 3rd brake light, cargo, front side marker, all interior lights.

headlapms are sylvania ultrastars, along with fog and front turns ( the turns look purple/chrome when they are off i liked that look on my 99 and they are nice and bright when on. )

puddle lamps under mirrors are stock.

I purchased eveythng from V-leds.com now they have kits which makes it easier.

i used red leds in tails, the color looks great and they are BRIGHT when stopping. i didnt see anything wrong with the stock lenses so i kept them all.

good luck. if you want some pics ill try to get some up.

LED bulbs in the tails will not reflect off the housing as well as the halogen bulbs. The LED itself might be bright but it will not dispurse light as well

That would be great if you could post some pictures of how they look. Another question that I have is have you had any issues with them so far? I am planing on getting an FX2 which has the blacked rings around the taillights and doing all the same changes that you have done so I would like to stay stock as much as possible. Thanks so far.

This is not true, unless you buy the crappy auto zone leds.

you are correct. those auto zone bulbs are horrible. and way cheap. LEDs done put out a tenth of the light these do. and the ones from V-Led.com are all surface mount so there are more lights in the same space.. they so make directional bulbs for certian applications, but the ones you would want to use would have lights on the end and all around the 'bulb' like these.. 92 leds total!!

this is for the round base type,, make sure to order the right one for the application. i just grabbed the first pic of the bulbs i bought. however wedge base.

Betcher78,
What did you do about the load resister issue? did you have to install a LR at each one for the interior lights? Did you install one for each exterior light? or did you find an electronic one to replace the thermo one under the dash area? If so where do i find one and the part number? Looking around on V-leds trying to get some idea of the right and not the wrong way to do this. Sorry about the questions. My other half would like me to do the same to her Mits Endeavor. Thanks for any help.

I'd like to know the answer to this question as well.

I was going to wait for Recon to come out with their LED Tail Lights for our F-150's. But if these LED replacement bulbs work just as well, I'll also go this route.

You shouldnt need a load resistor for direct replacement LEDs.

I did not install load risis on the flashers as they do flash faster. but there is still an on-off-on where they dont flash fast enough to not notice they are flashing. cops say they are fine . i do have reg bulbs in the front so that helps. it would be easy enough to install a load resis in the rear behind the lense..

the interior lights should not need a load resis. they work just fine. and fade in and out just like factory bulbs did.

Alright, I'm here to save everyone from led hyperflashing once again. What you need to stop hyperflashing is a new electronic flasher. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...ci_sku=5060001 This will cure hyperflashing whether you have just front turn signal leds, taillight leds or both. Load resistors are the cheap way to go and from what I've heard, they get real hot. I don't know if they work but the EP-27 flasher does work, I have it in my truck. BTW, load resistors are not needed for interior leds. They work perfectly as replacements.

Ok, believe that if you want.

WOW! that is a heck of a difference even with the tint! They will show up even better with the stock ones on my new FX2. On the Flasher, thank you that will save a bunch of time later on. I did notice the life duration on it said 600 hours, interesting. Again thanks on the p/n and the proof. Now I have to do the SUV when I get home from the Sand pile here in 38 days and a wake up. :-)

I'm confused. What do you gain from switching to LEDs?

^Lifespan of the bulbs and usually brightness. Leds will take a long time to burn out, if they ever do. Also, for interior leds, you can get different colors.
