Talking Need help with buying a 2010 FX4

Hello, I currently looking for a 2010 FX4. I know there is a buying forum but it seems pretty dead compared to this one.

First of all the truck in question is something like this one http://www.midwestcityford.com/detai...FW1EV0AFD03832

They have a few on the lot, but all of them have the same options. The sticker is about 45,700.

Now negotiations kinda started backwards because they already know I have a trade in which is a 2004 FX4 with 97,000 miles and damage on the passenger side. The damage is about 10k worth of damage and I was fearing I'd get 6 or 7k at most for the truck. We initially went there to just find out how much I could get for a trade-in. They came back and said somewhere between 10-11k, which to my surprise sounded very good compared to the other quotes I've been getting. There are other Ford dealerships in the area, so if I need to restart negotiations without talking about a trade in first I can still do that.

Back to the truck in question, I essentially told him to give me his lowest price possible. He gave me a phone call later and quoted me around 37k with factory rebates and the extra 1000 rebate on trade ins. The total rebates came to 4,500, so he's trying to sell me the truck for 41k

I feel that is a tad too high and I want to make a counter offer that is more in my favor, but I dont want to be absurd either. This is my first time purchasing a new vehicle, I'm paying cash (less trade-in). I will do financing to take advantage of rebates but will pay it off immediately.

My question is where should I start? I pulled some info from consumer reports and they said invoice should be around 34,000. How do I know how much to add on top of that with all the options it has? It has about 8k worth of options. Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated, and thanks for reading my novel I just wrote.

I have the same exact truck (different color) including options and paid $40,000 plus a total of $5,500. in rebates for a total price of $34,500 + tax and lic.

Thanks for helping me out. I'd also like to hear opinions on waiting for the 2011 models. Will you still be able to get them to come down 10k on the MSRP or do they stay pretty high for awhile?

The only two engine packages I'd be interested in the 2011 are the 6.2 and the 3.5 Eco. I know the 3.5 wont come out till later in 2011 so thats probably not an option for me. I'd be willing to pay a few grand extra for a 2011 6.2 over a 2010 5.4.

I got help with a xplan pin and they told me it brought it down pretty much to invoice (so they say anyway). I think my truck was 42K and xplan got it to like 37, then debates on top of that. Im pretty sure without xplan and with a lot of hagling you could get that if not better.

That's correct, mine was purchased with xplan as well, and it gets you pretty close to invoice.

I dunno, sound like a pretty good deal to me. They are being WAY overly generous on your trade, so I think the net difference is right there.

Sounds high to me, Just picked mine up last week (Love it) Out the door including tax/transfer etc for $35,836 and was given $23,500 for my 07 xlt.

You may have read it already but, I figure I saved about $4500 from reading this post https://www.f150online.com/forums/bu...d-vehicle.html
