The way to change the tranny filter is easy, take the pan off, very much like the old days. The pan comes off very easily when you remove the bolts that are holding it on. Once you take the pan off the filter is the first thing you will see and it pulls out very easily.

Then the dipstick is on the side of the transmission.

 

You are correct, I misread the service guide. It only says to inspect auto trans fluid level on vehicles equipped with a dipstick. What has a dipstick anymore, maybe just the SD? I don't think I'm going 150K on a trans fluid change either. Sorry for the mis-information, I thought I read 30K in the manual.

 

They have a dipstick - you have to get under the truck to get at it. It's attached to the plug.

 

yes the dipstick is on the side of the tranny but to check the level correctly you must have a scan tool connected to the car and monitor the temperatures, which according to the service manual the temp should be 175°F-185°F i can put the whole procedure up if you really want it...

 

Where exactly is the dip stick?

Is it accessable from under the hood or do I need to get under the truck?
