There is not trans dip stick to check fluid level and colour so does that mean we don't need to service them unless there is an obvious trans issue?

If you check your manual I believe it says 30k, its a dealer service thing. Thats when I plan on getting mine done, flush and fill.

That's exactly what it means. Just follow the service intervals in your owners manual and all will be good.

I had my first oil change at the dealer yesterday and when I left I vowed to never go back unless I absolutely had to (warranty item or something like that). Therefore I want to service this truck myself or take it to a friend's mechanic shop in lieu of the dealer.

So as I was perusing the maintaince/service schedule manual I came across the trans section thats why I would like to know a little more detail as to what is involved (ie. are there filters to replace, where do you fill the trans fuild from.....?).

Or if someone can recommend a really good dealer service department in the GTA.

Welcome to the Toyota-fication of yer F150

Or put another way - Ford's relentless pursuit of the lowest fleet TCO numbers. Where customer comes second.

Pioneer of 'lifetime' fluids, suspension components and 100K sparkplugs. Good grief, the things some folks will believe...

There is a filler plug atop the tranny.

Good Shop in the GTA (sorta, lol): http://www.eastgateford.com/

Large service area, long hours, good folks. Also do Roush installs, and is an SVT shop.

MGD,
Thanks, I will have to consider Eastgate cause it is a bit further than I would like to travel for service (I'm in Toronto).

As mentioned, there is a plug on top of the tranny. Fluid is serviced with an exchange machine.

Is there a filtration system that also requires scheduled maintenance?

I doubt it - the fuel filter is even lifetime now - it's in the fuel tank.

It has to have some kind of fuel filter - it's my understanding it's inside the fuel tank.

I guess my manual is different than yours -

First mention of a transmission fluid change in my manual is 150,000 miles.

Fuel filter is now part of the fuel pump, so to change it you would have to replace the pump and I'm pretty sure the only way to change the trany filter is while rebuilding it or just to tear it apart, not like the old days any more

I think you will find that is the recommendation for normal service and the recommendation for severe service is still 30k.

The service guide says 30,000 under severe duty but also says not required for 6R60/6R80/TorqShift Transmission. It doesn't list anything other than the 120,000 miles.
