It might solve the problem, but at extra cost to me.

I was hoping that FORD would "man-up" to the problem. Ford should realize that there is reasonable chance that a wide low profile tire like on the 4X4 2010 F-150 Platinum will be dynamically unbalaced if all the wheel balance weights are mounted on the inside edge of the wheel rim. For the last 40 years, I've never had a vehicle where all the wheel balance weights were mounted on the inside edge of the wheel. There are always some weights on the inner edge and some on the outside edge, usually (but not always) distributed 50-50. I never had a wheel balance problem except once when I lost a wheel balance weight. Rebalancing fixed that.

Since my dealer says they won't do the sticky weights on my Platinum wheels, I conclude that FORD is ignoring the engineering principles involved in dynamic unbalance of wheels.

What a headache to go thru with a new truck Here is something to consider. http://www.counteractbalancing.com/counteract/index.php

I know a few guys who drive their trucks/Jeeps to the ORV park and are running 35-40" tires that are to large for most shops to balance, They all collaborate the beads actually work

My 2010 Lariat had a shudder similar to what you described. I had them check it before I signed the paperwork - turned out to be the two front tires out of balance.

Not sure how a factory that sends dozens or hundreds of these things out the door every day can fail to properly balance tires, but it obviously happens.

Better yet if they take the driveshaft out of the other truck put it in yours and it doesn't vibrate.Let the other guy at the Ford dealership deal with the vibration and drive away and let him deal with Ford.I have a question did it have the vibration when it was new and when you test drove it?

Later Mark.

To Mark...I bought it used. The dealer loans out two trucks to coaches at the University baseball team, to be returned at the 6,000 mile mark and I picked this one up at a substantial savings. I noticed the "shudder" in about the first week. By the way the service manager did some old time mechanic work with out the computer vibration equipment because he said they didn't have the soft ware for the 2010's. They were real good about everything. Took about a week to diagnose and get the drive shaft in but I was in no hurry because I was driving one of their loaner cars. To answer someone's earlier question...after exchanging drive shafts, they put the good one back in the new truck and ordered a new one for mine. I suppose they sent my bad one back to Ford? I didn't ask.

I asked the dealership about the driveshaft after my last encouter to which the service manager stated " I think I tried that a long time ago", funny how he never mentioned it nor is it in any of the documentation I have.

The vibration/shudder has been there since new but unfortunately I did not test drive this particular truck. The dealership got it from another dealership in order to meet the color requirement I had. Wife and I just went to dealership, signed the papers and drove off with our new truck; looking back, bad mistake on my part.

Seems like there was an issue with driveshafts on some of these trucks that made them stop production for a while this past year. I would push that issue a little harder and have them check that out.

I posted another thread about this problem in my 2010. They swapped out the torque converter per the TSB. I have noticed any problems since. And that was about 3 weeks ago?

The talk about the driveshaft has me worried. I've been trying to recreate the problem again while driving the last few days. Just can't seem to do it. Hopefully it lasts. I did forget to mention that my dealership (Tomball Ford) said my truck was the first one they've worked on for this issue, but other dealerships in houston had done a few.

Just chiming in here as I too have the issue. I have a 2010 platinum, super crew 4x4 and somewhere in the 60-65mph range the vibration phases in and out. Had a ride with the service manager today and the EVA meter was showing .03g around the Cincinnati beltway. I'm not sure what to make of it. I really haven't driven any other trucks to compare, but my boss has one and he hasn't noticed the vibration.

My vibration doesn't shake your hands off the steering wheel, but it's more than it should have and I'm having issues with the "it's a truck, it rides rough" line. My point is that vibration is a separate issue from riding rough. My service manager is trying to be helpful but I think he went through this before (maybe with PGR Dan) and told me that turned out to be a dead end.

My sales manager is trying too -- I didn't test drive the truck, a mistake on my part. Sales manager says it doesn't matter because he would have told me they'd get it fixed anyway - so he seems like a stand up guy. Everyone at the dealer seems to be trying to work with me but they are prepping me for the Ford response of it being within spec.

Anyway, service manager has a theory that the shocks rebound way too quickly almost like an undampened spring - so a slight imperfection in the road causes some vibration, and by the time it settles you've alrady hit another slight vibration setting it off again. Not sure what to think about that one except that if that was the case I'd think the vibration to be much slower. Mine was around 14hz and I'd expect too much rebound to happen just 1 or 2 "bounces" - not 14hz for a few seconds.

I read on one forum (forget which) that some guy shoved bed mat scraps into the drive shaft carrier bushing to fill in the holes and his vibration went away - almost like a bump in the road would cause the driveshaft to get off balance and wobble for a moment -- stiffening the bushing fixed it for him. Seems kind of crazy though.

Let me just say - if my vehicle had .06g of vibration I'd be concerned the wheels were about to fly off. That is an extremely high tolerance in my opinion.

Yes, my saga is still ongoing as well. I've escalated to Ford through the Customer Relations Dept and now they have shipped some sort of special equipment to my dealer that is supposed to be able to isolate where the vibration is happening. I'm dropping the truck off at the dealer next week to see if they can finally fix it. If not it's off to arbitration. What a pain on the butt when you have to start fighting these things out in court.

Just a thought, would it be helpful for all of us to catalog our names, contact info, and dealers we've been to? Seems like Ford might have a better time fixing this if we're able to show them several similar situations.

Thought I would speak up, I have a 2010 FX2 screw with the same issues. I also did not test drive mine due to the dealer getting it from another dealer. I am bringing it in Tuesday for this issue and a loose wire or door ticking on the driver side front door. Might all be related however I can press on the left arm rest and the ticking goes away. I had not notices the vibration issues until this weekend while driving up to north Florida from Tampa.
