Dealership says "its a truck!" &I^%& that. I have owned 7 ford trucks since 98' and NONE drove like this. My 07' Lariat was very smooth. Ordered another set of wheels (went OEM so the dealership can take a whack at it, said it was the wheels or tires, not their problem) and see if that helps. They did some work on the rotors and didn't help. Still in the early stages with Ford. Hopefully I will get this problem worked out. I have placed an order for a 2011 Lariat and will lose $5K on it, but this is rediculous. Seems to be a common problem. I will drive the new one for a week before I sign anything. ALL (4X4 SCrews) the ones on the lot drive sooooooooo smooth. This is BS!

Still love Fords though. Only bad one in 7 trucks. Would like to get it resolved though. I have had it 5 monthes almost and I can't stand to drive it. Worst riding vehicle I have ever owned.
Dealership is as usual full of crap!

Have one of the salesman or mechanics at the dealer drive with you in your truck.

Then find a new 2010 F150 with 20" tires and then have them drive with you.

I have the 2010 with 20" Pirellis and mine is smooth as glass on the highway. I do have the 5.5' bed which may or may not make a difference.

Also visit your states DMV website and see if you have a case under the lemon law. There are forms you fill out and file.

My vibration 90% gone.

I have a 2010 STX and had the same problem and experienced the same frustration with the dealer. I wrote to Ford and they sent an engineer that rode with me and drove the truck, using vibration sensors. They replaced the driveshaft and 90% of what I call a "thrumming" vibration from 45-55 mph went away. I can deal with it now. I think the remaining vibration is in the differential, likely caused by the out of balance driveshaft. The service writer origi9nally told me it was due to the smaller 4.6 engoine, that the 5.4 didn;t have this. From other postings, looks like that is bologne. Otherwise a fantastic truck, love the handling and gas mileage.

The dealership told me they were going to check the driveshaft and pinion angle but it seems they did not do this. Now they are trying to tell me it is normal for the Platinum. They said it is due to the suspension on the truck. I totally disagree as I haven't seen, read or been told of any differences in the suspension for the Platinum vs the Lariat. The service manager and I test drove his Lariat which is identical body and tires as mine. His truck was very smooth and showed no signs of the vibration and shudder. He admitted his truck road did not have any of the same vibrations as my truck has.

I am extremely frustrated with this situation and just want a truck which meets my expectations. This is after all the "Platinum" version, supposedly the finest, most luxurious Ford makes.

Those of you with a Platinum or knowledge of my issues, please let me know your thoughts.

Question Vibration.

sounds like my issue. mine's a 2012 Regular Cab though. Same wheels/tires.
Around 52-57mph, do you notice your rear bed at the top of the tailgate bouncing up and down (sometimes violently)? I experience this only on the driver side. Some suggested the tires are not balance correctly, but at this point, i don't know. Only does it at 52-57mph. Definately annoying.
My passenger seat shakes at this speed as well.

My shudder is pretty bad at that range of speed. I can see the passenger seat vibrating pretty good.
I have the 18" chrome clad wheels w/Michelin tires.
Truck now has 2000 miles. I have been driving it from Orlando to Jax a few times a week and it can be unbearing.

Thanks

2012? Get it in to the dealer, that's a warranty issue.

Without reading through this entire thread again... have they checked for a dragging brake? One of the rubber connector hoses to a rear caliper on my truck collapsed last month causing the brake to drag. I was getting a lot of bed hop as well until it started dragging so badly that I began to smell the brakes and knew that I had a problem. Once the line was replaced, the rear shudder went away.

Question

I haven't been back to the dealer yet.... I did email them telling them of the vibration issue. They said a tech would ride with me and he could see/feel the vibration himself.

I did not notice this during the test drive, as I never got over 45 in stop and go traffic or off on a side road where the speed limit was over 45. I didn't notice it going home either because I was up to 65 when I got out of the traffic. Now that i'm home, its 55mph speed limit, so I guess i'm noticing it more and more being at it only does it at 55.

Could be many many things, just can't point my finger on it----if its the same as the issues described in the thread....

Hate to be without my truck and leave it in the shop.

I’m really sorry to hear that your dealer is not willing to help you further, unfortunately it gives you a sour taste about ford. My friend is going through the same issue with his truck and his dealer has been really great with him. They had a ford engineer come in to look at the issue and they ruled that it needs a shim kit and change the tires, according to the engineer ford is having major issues with the 20” Pirellis (witch I think they are the worst tires I ever had). Good luck and I will keep you posted.

i have the stop/start shudder now and took it to the dealer this past week. I made a post on it. They think its the slip yoke. I already had my rear drive shaft re-aligned as I had a horrible vibration at 80km/hr. This is for when I start or stop it shudders and is sooo annoying. I almost cringe when I have to stop and start.
To fix it the dealer is going to be replacing everything from the transmission out. The two drive shafts, slip yoke, everything to the last U joint. Hopefully that works. Parts are supposed to be in on next week and appointment is set for the 19th.

He had mentioned that there were a ton of those parts on order and in stock so a TSB may be coming out for this.

I finally got the dealer to listen to me & they replaced the complete drive shaft... Wouldn't ya know it... Vibration was GONE!! Just broke through the 60k mark, & no problems at all with my ride, other than that. LOVE IT!

Hey guys it has been a while. I read on some other forums about the driveshafts about 7 months ago (right before I got rid of the truck) and tried to tell the mechanic at my Ford dealership that I believed that the driveshaft was the problem. He told me, "not possible!" I will never deal with that dealership again.

I am without a truck for the first time since 97' and I feel empty...but at the same time, I don't miss that POS. I will be buying another F-150 in the next 18 months (don't NEED a truck at the moment, though I want one) and once I am finished paying off the 5K I rolled into the Edge I bought for the wife.

It is really weird how much I miss driving a truck, though not that one. Wish they could have fixed the problem or replaced the truck. My ex-dealership ordered my perfect truck with a "handshake" aggreement (wouldn't put it in writing) on what they were going to give me for my 6 month old trade-in. When it arrived and I drove it, they finally told me that they were offering my $1500 less that what was agreed upon, though I hadn't drove the truck for 6 weeks, to keep roughly the same miles on it. (56 miles more)

The saleman was a real &U%&*($% and told me the truck I ordered would be sold by the next day if I didn't take it NOW! I am not gullible...I looked at the 100 or so trucks sitting on the lot (granted this one had the highest payload you could get on a 2011 F150 Ecoboost Screw 4x4 Lariat...1806 lbs of payload.) and told him goodluck and walked out.

They called me three days later and agreed on my trade-in price that they originally agreed on. Already bought a 2011 Edge and rolled the loss into a $4000 rebate. Truck took 4 months to sell. I will drive 700 miles back to my original dealership for my next truck. Can't wait for my 2012-13 F150 Ecoboost Lariat 4x4 with HD Payload Package, Max Tow, Lariat Plus package in Candy Red Metallic. 2000+ lbs of payload for a halfton. Cant wait to pull the horse trailer and TT with it.

Congrats to all that got their truck fixed. Maybe I should have waited till Ford would admit the problem but now I get the Ecoboost. My ex truck only got 13 mpg, if I was really gentle, on the HWY. My 07 got 17.5-19 all the time. The 2010 truely was a POS. Happy trucking.

It will be worth the wait. Have a 2012 4x4 Lariat SCrew EB tow package w/ 20" Perrelli's; smooth as butter, lots of power, and at 50-70mph on flat highway, no traffic, can get mid-20s mpg. Fantastic truck.

Hey Guys,
New 2012 Screw owner. May 12' build date. Lariat 2wd eboost. Same problem as others with the vibrations. Right about 50-53 mph, feels like i am on a washboard. Not terrible, but not correct. This is the first ford i have owned since my 2000 150 xlt. Other than that, she is great. I've read thru most of the threads concerning vibrations, seems like there are few different issues that are the cause. Tires, wheels, driver shaft. I have Goodyear Wrangler's with 18" plastic clad wheels.
Is there a true TSB that will take care of this, or do you just have to fight the fight with a solid dealer?
