One trick you can try is before putting the pins in put the key in first then add the pins one at a time making sure they are even with the surface of the cylinder and then test it. Theoretically it should work.

I have a $1000 deductible, so insurance doesn't come into play. Plus, if it's an easy fix I can do myself I'd rather do that than deal with dropping it off and picking it back up.

Thanks for the link - that's the first time I've seen a 'textured base with chrome handle' description. Amazing that the price listed there is $40, where I was quoted $189 by the dealer.

I'd buy through Tasca or other WD parts wholesaler. Handles are cheaper and less mess than windows. They are going to break one or the other. Just try to keep valuables out of sight.

i've had my new truck less than a week and just had my lock busted by a screw driver .. f$%^ .. what's the point of having a factory alarm when you can disable it with a quarter turn of a screw driver in 2secs.. faster than typing the code on the keypad
at least they didn't damage the paint, i'll probably order the lock cylinder and try to replace it myself

I ordered the lock and door handle from Tasca Tuesday. It's supposed to be in sometime next week. Once I get a chance to change it out, I'll report back on difficulty.

Thanks for all the help!

Quick update - got the parts in from Tasca yesterday. Rekeying the lock cylinder was quite easy, even without the old tumbler numbers. Took about 10 minutes to complete.

I haven't replaced the door handle itself, yet. My wife is 9 months pregnant and due any day now, so I don't want to be mid-tear-down on the door when I get the "it's time to go!" message - so I'll tackle that sometime next week.

Looks like the fix will end up costing under $200, which still sucks given it's due to some selfish idiot - but still much better than $1100 - and I learned to rekey locks!

Well, my wife is tired of being pregnant, so I thought I'd help things along by starting the project. Figured that would kick things off - but it didn't. I was able to get the new handle in place, though.

I took some photos, but honestly, the guides in the 'How To' section put anything I could pull together to shame. I used the following two:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...de-w-pics.html

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...2008-f150.html

I do have before/afters of my truck, though. It's not perfect, but I think I'd rather deal with the small ding below the handle than have to worry about non-matching paint.

Before:

After paintless dent repair and replacement handle/lock:

I do have one question. On most vehicles I've owned with power locks, turning the key twice in the lock locks/unlocks all doors. After the fix, turning the key only operates only the drivers door. The manual mentions something about that, but does everyone else's work the same way, or did I forget to hook up something to the actuator?

I don't remember the exact price (my wife delivered early today, so I'm a bit groggy!) but it was around $100.
