Discovered something today

At work, I use a USB drive to hold the music I like and listen to it on
my computer. I got to wondering if I could do the same with my FX4 Sync
so I tried it and it works great. Don't need an MP3 player (the two I have,
wouldn't work in USB anyway).
Anyway, I'm really lovin this truck more and more each day.

Yeah, I've been using a thumb drive in my USB port for a couple of weeks now. It does work great. The only problem is when I pull into the garage you have to re-set it once you loose satellite connection, if you pull out the thumb drive. Otherwise as far as I'm concerned, it's better than an MP3 player, and I've got a bunch of them filled with music.

That's a cool feature. I wish my stock radio had it.

i keep my zune in my truck with about 4000 songs on it plugged into my usb port. hell of a lot easier than trying to keep cd's in the truck for the amount of songs i have and i dont even have all of them programmed in the zune. have a couple thousand more to throw into it right now and the collection grows monthly. i love the sync system.

Did you guys think it was only there to charge stuff? I got a small micro sd card on a small thumb drive i keep plugged into the port,i like using it for stand up comedy shows when i take long trips.

The wireless bluetooth audio thing is nice as well, but my phone isnt able to give the song info, which means i cant simply ask for the song i want to select, like the usb does.

So I'm not the only person who listens to comedy while I drive. Gotta wonder what it looks like to people on the outside. Some guy sitting alone in a truck laughing.

Def do the USB2 mod, then you don't have to leave anything plugged in where anyone can see it. I ran a USB cable through to my glove box, and just keep a 16gb thumb drive in there loaded with music.

Then I got XM's desperate deal - 5 months for $19! So I have my playboy radio ready to rock - you can just call XM and tell them you got a letter in the mail offering 5 months for $19...they are so desperate for business they will give this deal to anyone!

But the best thing I found now - and this will probably be the reason why I don't renew XM when it expires again in 5 months - is Google Listen on my android phone. You can stream ANY podcast straight from your phone and play it in the truck via bluetooth audio. Not to mention slacker and pandora radio. I plug my HTC Hero in to the dashboard USB board so it can charge, and press the sync button, tell it bluetooth audio, and I have unlimited podcasts, comedy, music, and media!

Not to mention that with the new google maps w/ turn by turn directions - I don't need a separate GPS either!

i love my truck, and I've seen and used a lot of the competing systems in other cars/trucks, and Sync is by far the best.

Reset it? Not sure what you mean. Like you, I've got several USB drives
loaded with music and at less than $20 bucks for 8 GIG's, it's way cheaper
than an Ipod.

My micro sd adapter is about a 1/2in long and black, you can barely see its there, pretty nice. That mod isnt a bad idea though.

I just got that 5 month for $19 deal in the mail the other day. As long as it wont auto renew and charge me i might do it, but im sure they will only let you do it once.

Thanks for pointing this out Shotgunz, I think I'll do this myself. For me I don't think I'll go with the HD. It seems to me that's where most people run into problems. A couple of 32 gig thumb-drives ought to more than enough for my needs. But it will clean up the dash not having the thumb-drive plugged into the USB port. Another fear would be breaking a thumb-drive off in the port. out of sight out of mind is always better too.

You have to specifically request that they do not auto-renew. They put a note on my account to not auto-renew it (he had to get a supervisor approval) but I still put a note in my calendar when it expires so I can be sure.

I loaded up my thumbdrive and used it the other day. Is there any way to playback whats on there sequentially?

It seems it just randomly goes track to track. I had hoped I could play through tthe USB just the same as from a CD...

yes you can use the sync commands to tell it what song to play, as long it has a title and can recognize it...Otherwise just hit the next button on the dash.

What I mean is, can it play an entire album without moving to the next album?

For instance, I loaded whole complete albums on my thumbdrive, can I hear one whole album before moving to the next?
