sad panda... mirror took a hit.

My truck is almost brand new its a 2009 lariat with less then 10k its my baby. so moving on i drove around all day and i noticed at night time that my drivers mirrors was shaking bad like it was folding up at 70mph. so i stopped and noticed that it lost its tension or something it just slips. so i got angry and got back in the truck and just called it a night. closer inspection it seems someone hit my mirror in the parking lot and folded my mirror so now its all lose and shaky nothing else is damaged, only thing that makes me think is someone hit is theres a long blemish on the bottom like a small truck knicked it. i called the dealer and they said if theres any marks on it they wont replace it or look at it. so i dont want to shell out all that money for an auto dimming mirror. any suggestions? i was looking at the led mirror project but i didnt get to look at the internals that secure the mirror to the truck. any ideas? thanks guys.

My passenger mirror hit a road sign at 35 MPH and folded in. I hit the button and folded it out, and it didn't put a scratch on it. It surprises me that your mirror was damaged. Maybe it got pushed forward instead of backward.

My dads got pushed forward and it seems to be alright. Someone had to have hit it pretty hard to cause any damage.

i know right? but when i found it , it was in its some what normal position. unless they hit at a slow speed and then backed away or they got out and folded it back.

Lucky you. My last 150, ('04) had exactly the same thing... The glass shattered, and the internal workings stripped. Had to be replaced. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

Someone hit my mirror at about 25-30 mph and complettly destroyed the mirror and even my drivers window. Ended up at over $1200 for a new mirror and window. You was very lucky not to have any damage.

Even bigger sad panda here... it happened to me, and due to this economy I can't afford to replace it for a long while.

does your insurance not cover it. Mine covered 100% of the cost.

I don't want to ask and have such a minor claim affect my insurance. A new towing mirror is only $140 (I checked with an online dealer) but that is $140 more then I can afford right now. I have higher monetary priorities. It functions fine, the plastic is just popped out partially.

I had this happen to me on my Passenger side when a school bus and I were navigating the same back country road. We both had to get over very far and I was only doing about 10, but my mirror hit a mailbox and folded in. It cracked pretty good because it was something like 15 degrees out! Then after the 2 big blizzards hit I was driving a road that was reduced to 2 lanes and a old suburban rounded a bend and we hit driver's mirrors! This impact left a big hole in my outside covering. I just replaced the driver's mirror and I will live with the passenger for a while longer. I have the Tow mirrors so pushing them out requires stopping and manually shoving the mirror back out where it belongs. For something like a mirror I would never use insurance. Save that for when you really need it.

its not the blemish of the mirror that worries me its how it constantly moves back and forth when im driving. the ford dealership where i bought my truck says if theres any mark on it they wont replace on it. so its a bummer. im moving across country and going to haul a trailer. i would like a fully functional mirror.
