First Scuff

Uhg! My new Lariat got its first scuff today. A big one, down the side over the wheel well. Someone tagged it in a parking lot. Darn it! It looks like the largest part of the damange is on the plastic trim piece that covers the wheel well and is part of the gold part of the blue and gold two tone color of my truck. I think the small dent right above it may come out via paintless dent repair.

I do have a question. There is a scuff at the back of the running board, right in front of the rear wheel. It doesn't look like it will come out totally. Due to the cost to fix this mess, I doubt I will claim it and just eat it out of pocket, but I'm told a running board is about $600 to replace. Is there anyway to buff out the chrome to get the scrape out?

Sometimes you can buff chrome out but it may be either cheaper to get a new board or re-chromed. Probably should take some pics for some better people than I to assess for you.

You can get a brand new set of running boards (similiar to stock) from $200 to $300, I am still waiting on my Nfabs and those were only $386.00 Good luck!

Where can I get the new running board for that price? That sounds like the deal to me.

I'll check it out. I just checked the Ford site. Ouch! $550 for one! Heck, I only paid $595 for the option on the truck! My dealer has them for $440, but I'll check out 4wheelparts.

I did my first scuff to myself. I got in a hurry and I got careless in a parking lot and tagged the bumper of a truck (the only vehicle) behind me. I bet if I backed up slowly, and used the rear park aid and camera, it wouldn't of happened. Cussed myself out real good too.

I did go in the store though and page the guy I hit. I helped him rub the paint from my bumper off his chrome bumper and he was happy. Not even a scratch on him.

I hate painted bumpers but wanted the locking rear end of the FX4. Why can't the FX4 have chrome bumpers? Nothing would have happened.

Plan on a brush touch up and buffing this weekend. Body shop said if I provided the nail polish touch up bottles, they'd apply and buff it for $25.

I don't know what's wrong with people. The week I got mine, my girlfriends neighbors kids got my front bumper on both sides. Scraped the bumper with a skateboard. Tried to make it look like they were flipping off the truck or something. It's retarded that you have to expect people to do things like that to your property.

my first ding in my truck came from the damn wind ripping the tonneau cover out of my hands putting a mark above my driver side door, my second ding was on my passenger side door....the paint looked awfully familiar to the color of my fiance's svt focus....oh well, its not a deal breaker, we're still getting married this fall! both instances were accidental.....

Someone nicked the right rear bumper (painted) at the gas station at the one month point. Doofus driving while texting. Rubbed out 2 scuffs (still discolored but hard to see), but have 4 smail gouges (1/8"-1/4") down to white primer(?). Getting some touch-up paint from Ford to fill the small gouges.

Anyone have any experience using Ford touchup paint to fill small dings? Advice appreciated.

i used the ford touch up paint on my ding from my fiance, wasn't very impressed...it'll take several light coats to make it disappear....i shook it heavily but it's pretty watery IMO...

I had a lady down in McAllen Tx. Hit my Passenger side door with her door. HARD. I was sitting in the truck. I Let that bitch have it till she drove off. I honked at her and rolled the window down. Asked her what the **** she was thinking.. Her response was "Well I had to get in my car. She had to open her door all the way to hit me. Left a nice ding in the bottom of the door. She drove off before I could get out and get attempt to get her info.. I hate stupid people.

Yes, I hate stupid and inconsiderate people too.

On the Ford touch up paint......I've never used in on this F-150, but I have on other vehicles and it is watery as stated above. Depending upon the color, you will have to apply several coats. If it is a big spot, you will want to have it buffed so it isn't obvious.

They are working on my truck. I hope to have it back by Friday. I can't find a replacement step bar for under $450 (for one!). They are telling me $600 for the pair. It you had a 2-3 inch scuff on your passenger step bar where the chrome is scratched off, would you replace?

Oh, I forgot to add. If I get the set, the driver's side bar is brand new looking (maybe because it is new?) and I will be selling it for much less than OEM prices if anyone is interested.
