Performance AND better mileage:

Granted, if my foots in it for performance, I know the mileage will go down. I would like the best of both worlds. No foot in it = Good mileage, foot in it, great performance.

I am looking for the happy medium. I post this here, because it is specific to my 2010.

So, I am thinking this: I am on my second F-150. This one I did right, Lariat Screw 4x4. I have been told to get an "airaid" cold air intake, and dual out the exhaust. Now... I am hearing about e-fans. I live in Texas. It does get hot eight months out of the year.

I plan on keeping this truck for 10 years, at least. I do not plan on towing, perhaps occasionally only. I do plan on taking it out in the mud though. So, are these worth it individually?

1. Cold air intake, makes sense, but is it worth the cost? I am told to get an airaid as they are close to getting ready for 2010 models. Was told this is better than the others... Opinions, I know. Also, should I get the extra "pluming" to get cooler air from outside the engine compartment?

2. E-fans, make sense, but worth the cost? Should I just get stock?

3. Dual exhaust, not sure, but it sure sounds cool. I am going to do this just for fun if nothing else. (grin)

Many thanks. I did a search, but have not found much for 2010 year models, and/or my driving needs.

OK, I'm going to redneck the exhaust just for fun, but are the fans and intake worth doing???

Well let's see here..

Don't waste your money on dual exhaust unless you are going for sound.. Your stock size pipe is the perfect size! What you can do is upgrade your muffler to a free flowing muffler. I just welded in a Magnaflow muffler to my stock pipe, it sounds great! And I picked up a small increase in fuel mileage.

Your truck already has e-fans....

Do not waste your money on a intake, the stock intakes on our trucks are as good as they come! This has already been proven, do some research in the forums and you will see.

In my opinion the best bang for your buck is your driving foot!! However my second choice would be a set of custum tunes!

What is your normal mpg's right now? I just drove from my house to detroit and at 75 mph I was averaging 18.6 mpg's.. On the way home I only drove 60 mph and i was getting 20.2 mpg's.. Around town I am just under 18 mpg, if I can keep my foot out of it

Same as above. The factory did their homework on the intake and exhaust. If you want shiny tips or a loud noise throw a muffler on it. If some good tuners come out in the next few months that may be a 10hp option. Ford has designed and tuned these trucks a lot better than Fords of the past. The biggest push in the entire automotive industry now is fuel economy.

Right On, muliefever!

Absolutely, Positively could NOT have said it any better (although Sir Shotgunz will likely try )!

OP - this is great advice.

The ONLY thing I would do mechanically is the mod described by Bill Cohron (PHP) in this thread:

==> https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...highlight=2009.

This will also give you a good idea what quality custom tuning can do for you. Purty much sums it up.

Good luck sir!

Damn!

Unfortunately he and muliefever are correct. I'm more about him being right than muliefever.

He always jumps in and steals my thunder.

Seriously though, couple of added 'points/clarifications'.

1. I'm purty sure the 7 hp gain was achieved with the use of a programmer and custom tow tune. Also note it was at approx. 5000 RPM. I'm not sayin' there won't be any gains removing the snorkel, but ...

2. I don't think anyone has had the snorkel removal mod long enough to conclusively say it will improve MPG. Again, not sayin' there isn't any MPG to be had - just not sure anyone knows fer sure.

If I've stepped on it, I'm sure he will be along shortly and correct me.

Since he isn't getting any (did he tell you he threw away his viagra when he got one of them eBay chips), he's grouchier than ever!

Have a nice day!

You know... It was after 11PM and I was just too lazy to go look.

OK, guys.. THANKS!

I had an '04 and never did anything to it because I liked it the way it was. I was thinking... My mistake. No more thinking.

Other than the sound, I pretty much like my '10 the way it is.

Thanks for the great advice. I think you guys just saved me well over $770+. I agree, it is a great truck, and Ford did appear to do their homework.

I recognize that I am the resident FNG and really appreciate Y'alls help. I'll take your advice and just look into welding up a magnaflow for sound. If I'm not going to get 2+ MPG out of mods, it's not worth it to me. I'll leave her alone.

I drive mostly in the city, and am getting about 14.9-15.4 MPG right now. I can't complain too much about that too much. My FOOT has the biggest variance of that.

This website is rapidly turning into one of my favorites. I need to buy a ring for the Honey, then I'm spending whats left over on the Ford.

I agree with everybody above. Although you could try running synthetic oil. It could give you a small boost in gas mileage.

Magnaflow

Hi guy's. What part number/model of Magnaflow muffler that is replacing the stock muffler?

A little louder is fine and is there any drone in the cab?

I installed a Gibson 3" side swept system on a 2004 Ram 2500 and really liked it.

As for my MPG I made a 361 mile trip last weekend and the computer showed 19.1. Hand calculated was 18.6.

In town I am getting 15.8.

When I do the Gotts mod. hope to see a little more.
