Are we prewired for backup sensors?
It might depend on your version truck. But the short answer is no.
I have an XLT SuperCrew. I backed over my mailbox 2 wks after purchase. I asked the repair company if they could add that in and they told me it required an add-on to the radio, extra harnesses, different bumper, the sensors, etc. I didn't think it would cost much but they said the difference between the repairs on my truck vs the upgrade (giving credit for my old bumper, etc) was somewhere around $1500. You can buy an aftermarket one for less than $100 online, so there was no way I was going to pay the difference.

Unless Ford has changed things in the 09/10 trucks, the reverse sensors are one of the more unreliable systems Ford builds. Search over on the 04-08 section and see all of the complaints folks have.
Mine have saved me once already, which makes them worth it to me. Leaving a friends house late one night, didn't realize that it was trash night, so everyone had set their trash cans to the curb. Would have backed into it (which probably wouldn't have done much damage), but the backup sensors let me know I was getting too close to something.
SORRY...was there text in your post....all is see is bacon...
anyways back to the subject...the aftermarket base model ones are $105.00 i am goingto try them and will give a full report!

I wouldn't have ordered it on my XLT, but I'm glad to have the sensors and camera. Especially since I live alone. I no longer have any problems hooking onto anything the very first time.
The top of my tailgate is 4'-10" off the ground. Lots of thangs can be behind you that you aren't aware of.

I guess I just got lucky then. I had them in my 2007 Scab Lariat and loved them, never a problem. I have them again in my 2010 and couldn't be happier. I'm personally thinking there's a better chance that whatever you're referencing is a case of someone getting unlucky. Who knows.

My '04 that I bought used had them and I laughed at them when I saw it. I thought the day I need backup sensors, I need to get a car....well I was wrong. They are BA, everyone who rides with me thinks they are so cool, especially for a 2004. Even before I leveled my truck (helps see behind you a bit) there were a few occasions where it saved me a car and its hood that I could have easily back over.
