Adding Rainsense?

First off how do you platinum owners like the rainsense wiper system? I've read that in some vehicles it is way more of a hassle than a convenience, and in other vehicles it works flawlessly. It hardly rains here, but getting splashed by a semi from melting snow is a regular.

I am considering adding the feature to my FX4 and am looking for any comments on the mod. Seems to me that a sensor and new turn signal stalk would be required and maybe some sort of module.

I like it but not enough to retro fit it to a vehicle.

Is that because you don't use it that often, or because it doesn't work as intended forcing you to manually control your wipers?

Thanks

If they are offered as a factory option I order them, I just don't think they would be worth the time and expense to retro fit them and yes, on my Platinum I often do have to manually override the wipers to clear the windscreen.

I have had rain sensing wipers in numerous vehicles and the system in my Platinum F150 is not the most sensitive rain sensing system at clearing light precipitation from the windscreen.

yeah it's not all cracked up what it's supposed to be. sometimes it doesn't pick up light precip, other times it goes super fast/hi when it's not even raining that hard out...

It sounds like the Ford ones do not work as good as MB. My wife's car works great all the time. More rain the faster they go. Less rain and they are on intermittent.

Huh, well maybe I will forego this mod after all. With no used parts available it looks like it could cost $400.

With the nice weather I'm just in the mood to mod. Maybe I'll look into adding cooled seats.

I never minded moving my hand off the steering wheel for a second to flip the switch on the windshield wipers.

^actually rather than rotating the switch, if you briefly press and let go of the window wash button, it will swipe once (this serves as the mist feature as per the owner's manual).

This is a feature I LOVE! I'm warm blooded to start with and a sweater. On even mild days when I'm wearing shorts my legs would always stick to the leather of my last vehicle. I kick on the cooled seats and am in heaven.

I didn't think twice about the fact they were included on my truck when i bought them but definitely am glad it has them!

Yeah they are nice, and the noise that some complain of doesn't bother me because I usually have the radio cranked. I run pretty hot too and black interior doesn't help. It looks like factory lariat seat covers could cost 280 each plus switches and other completion hardware.

My wife's Lexus has this feature. Rain sensing not perfect, but works better than manual wipers. I think it works better with silicon blades and a clean window. The main advantage of sensing wipers is they stop wiping when it stops raining. I agree, I would not go through the effort to add this feature after market.
