Mirror reflectors turned into turn signals how to w/pics
Not much dimmer at all, they are still very noticeable at night. Daytime..not so much, but I don't mind.
Thanks for the write-up. I did it a week ago and am very pleased. If anyone would like my left-over LED strips to do this mod, pm me your address and I'll send them to you (provided you live in US). You will need to solder wires to the contacts on the ends of each strip.
I hate to laugh, but I did the same thing on the driver's side. I took it up to Ford and they replaced it under warranty though while I sat in the driveway.
Well at the time it was no laughing matter! I removed the drivers side with no problem. After that, I thought I was a pro. Then I broke the passenger side mirror. I was very aggravated about doing that, until I called Ford. They said a new one was around $21.00, so I just wrote it off as a good learning lesson and added that to the price of the mod! Still a very good mod for $41.00.
Figured this needed to be replicated since not many see the mods area.
Went by autozone and picked up the led strips this afternoon. A few things about the mod that will make it easy on everybody and no mirrors removed and no disassembly of the mirrors.
1. remove the two reflectors. remove from the outer edge of the reflector so you don't break it...take your time.
2. cut out the white area as instructed before with a dremmel tool on both reflectors
3. Cut the strips to 9 LEDs and leave enough of the red and black cables to fish through the holes that hold the reflector on (there's enough room for the wires and to replace the reflector)
4. Pop off the cap under the mirror. The green with white stripe wire and the black wire are right there and you can bring them out of the hole.
5. Splice the red wire to the green and the black to the black with wire splicers

6. replace the reflectors after you have tested the power to the strips.
Your done.
You don't need to remove the mirrors to do this, just replace the caps on the bottom and your finished. Was really easy and no fear of breaking something in the mirror.
Thanks for your help in all the previous work and advice

Here's a picture I found. I think that the light is bonded in and may be a 2008 and earlier. Not sure the 2009-2010s have them.

Any way to remove it? Otherwise, you may just have to remove the mirror and go from the inside. LOL, now I need a light to go there. Has anyone put a light there that didn't have one before? I think they are called puddle lights.

I don't know personally, I have not seen one close up, but you should be able to remove the light. I have heard that the tab is fragile, so be careful. There should then be the wires needed that go to the LED for the modification. Can't verify that the lamp can be removed but I am assuming it can.

Great info. I dont have the proper tool to cut out the spot for the LED's, was curious how hard it was to cut through....Any way I could just use a really sharp knife or knife period?
