Cool What CAI to buy

I have looked at all types of cold air intakes and can not make a decision on which to buy.I need some feedback on the different CAI. Is any one better than the next or just a different box and color,or is there really a big difference???

None.

Stock is about as good as you are going to get.

I wouldn't know what is the best, but i would agree with above that its best to just leave stock. But if your wanting to get more HP out of that V8 (like me ) I went with the K&n. I'm not an expert, but the reason i went with K&n is because they are a trustworthy company that has been around for awhile and know whats going on. That just my opinion. Try going to Autoanything.com and look at all the cold air intakes and look at the users comments about each one, might help you out.

if you do a search you will find that the stock is about the best and with a cai you get noise and not much or any h.p. gains but the cai sounds good imo.

Hello & good morning sir!

Wellsir - I'm not an expert either but I can almost guranatee you that if you had done Bill's intake mod to yer truck, it would purty much equal the results from the K&N, plus you'd be quieter and yer air would be cleaner. [Common knowledge by now that K&N's not only flow very little, if any, more, but also let in more particulates than the stock paper filter.]

As an added bonus, you would not be risking contamination of yer MAF with filter oils, or even more importantly, not potentially altering yer MAF Transfer function to such a degree that you are tending towards a lean condition and the world of hurt that can get you into:

- Here is an excerpt from the full thread linked to below:

Bill Cohron - PHP
"Notice that the stock AFR curve does not allow any WOT enrichment until about 4500 RPM! And you wonder why the trucks are always so sluggish off the line. The AFR stays right at 14.6:1 throughout most of the acceleration. Now add a Cold Air Intake which in most cases cause a slight to moderate lean condition and suddenly you have a situation that could be very detrimental to the engine."

I always advocate Research prior to Purchase. Always. It's not as if this site does not already have a vast repository of data & information readily available at yer fingertips - as you have already discovered with yer 'dipstick' issue

Have you seen this thread? You would do well to read it in it's entirety.

Investing the price of yer intake into a custom tuner instead would have been a far better bang-fer-buck situation and you would be far happier.

Beautiful truck - treat it right.

Remember - the comments above are just my ignant & humble opinion, okay? I'm just trying to help - no pressure....

Take care, sir and have a nce day.

Cheers!

I just wish the stock unit didn't look like it had leprosy.

I have been doing alot of looking since i last seen this and i respect your reply on this thread. I think i might switch back to stock for now and keep it that way unless i decide otherwise. I am all about treating a great truck right and would love the best for it!

Thanks
Cheers

yeah i always had a k&n CAI and judging from the information on this forum it's better to just put your money towards a tuner and get it tuned to your stick specifications (and after market exhaust if you have one)...i had the k&n CAI on my 02 and 07 and didn't notice a whole lot of difference (other than i could hear it "suck" when i was on the throttle, and my exhaust seemed to sound a little bit beefier)....
