Question Fuel Filter Replacement Help

Hey guys,

Dealer wanted to replace my fuel filter at my 15k mile oil change. I said I will save the $95 they wanted to charge and do it myself.

I wanted to ask you guys first is there any specific brand I should get? Or is the normal one from Kragen fine.

Secondly, where is the fuel filter located on our trucks. Is there any steps I need to take while replacing it? All I have done on my old truck was oil changes and replacing spark plugs.

Thanks!

No, the dealer did not want to replace your fuel filter - he wanted to steal from you and have sex at same time.

The fuel filter in your vehicle is integrated in the gas tank itself and is part of the fuel pump module located in the tank. It is not user serviceable. Ford refers to it as a 'lifetime fuel filter."

Are you sure? I found a write-up on here on how to change your filter. I even located the parts on Kragen for my 2009. Not sure if their website is incorrect on the newer models but would like to know the definite answer on this.

Here is the write-up: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...-pictures.html

It's a lifetime fuel filter. You nor your dealer should change it.

Ha that's funny. I would tell the service guy, yeah do it. Then stand there and watch what they do.

Lifetime fuel filter in the 2009. Do they have it on their service records that it needs to be changed? Smells fishy.

Was it the dealer in El C? I've had good luck with Kearny Pearson.

Interesting. Why is Rock Auto listing inline filters for the 09/10?

I'm thinking cuz an inline filter is a generic add-on to any fuel line. Certainly not a replacement part.

Don't bother. Not needed. Use money and time for some other "mod."

Thanks
