Retractable Step Bars
Retractable Step Bars
Hi all,
I have a 2010 Supercrew 4x4 and love it! One of the things I noticed after purchasing; I encountered a few trucks that were Platinum editions that had retractable step bars. I was envious of this feature, since I always thought a 4x4 looked better without the step bars, though necessary for my wife.
My question is this....Can I add them on now? Will the truck have enough space underneath to accomodate, or is there something done to the platinum that is exclusive to this truck? If I add them, can they be installed to be automatic as they are on the Platinum? I am really wanting to follow up on putting these on my truck, but haven't a clue. Please advise......

Yes you can add them. The Amp Research step is what Ford uses.

Best thing is, I've noticed some other benefits of her having to stretch and use some different muscles every day.

The AMP Research steps work great and I highly recommend them. They actually drop down futher than the stock chrome steps so makes ingress/egress that much easier. I had them on my '08 F250 FX4 with a 2.5-inch lift and my '09 Dodge Ram 4x4 with a 6-inch lift. Even my 75 yr old mother could step into my lifted trucks fairly easily.
Here are a couple pics showing the steps on my F250 FX4. The first shows how well they tuck up under the body for great clearance, and the second shows them extended.

I love the steps on my platinum. I think they are like 1200-1500 bucks though. To me that was around 1000 of the price difference(2000 MSRP difference, $1500 power steps on platinum minus the $500 chrome steps) from going from a king ranch to the platinum.
From what the salesman told me(and who knows if this is true or not) the mounting holes in the frame are the same for the power steps and the chrome steps. I asked him if it was possible in case these steps failed and I didnt want to pay to get the power steps fixed.
