glc,
The tech at ford said the mpg wont be effected by the speedo being off. The gears were installed at a very reputable dealership here in SA. I did find it funny they couldnt recalibrate the computer/speedo to accomodate the new gears. If he was wrong then I to am wrong and need to delete this post until I have it recalibrated.
4.2trimble,
Eh dont think im really overgeared, as most people with 38's are running 4.88's. But at 60 it is saying 78, at 80 it reads 104.

When you originally lifted the truck and put 37's on it with stock gears your speedo was opposite, meaning when you were driving 60mph your gage was showing you doing 50-55. This was because you were UNDER GEARED
Now that you have new 4.88's and 37" tires your FINAL gear ratio is HIGHER than what it was with stock tires and gears. THUS meaning you are OVER GEARED. <this is not a bad thing Thats why you are running at 80mph and it says 104.
I was running 5.38's and 37's for a few months and it was rediculous at 70 my speedo was pegged.

now with that being said
you have actually travel LESS than the ODO shows which means your 13.5mpg would be LOWER.
BUT WAIT THERES MORE:
the 9.4mpg that you had with stock gears and 37" tires is not accurate either. Since you were undergeared the ODO reported LESS miles than what you actually drove therefor your MPG would be slightly HIGHER

Bottom line - yes, you need to get a tune or something to correct the speedo and odo before you will have valid numbers of any kind.
I wasn't implying that you were a noob and making mistakes - lots of people don't have a complete understanding of the concept. Don't feel bad - but you really shouldn't have edited all your statements out, that's just wrong. We learn from each other here and deleting posts is not fair to you or anyone else.
