Thats almost triple the HP and atleast 50-60ftlbs more than my 85 F150 I6 300ci had. That truck pulled like a freight train. Don't knock the displacement until you drive it. Technology is good.

This is good as those trucks are usually reg cab/long bed and are used in fleet applications. Companies that need the cargo space but not the weight capacities of a V8 can go with the V6 and same some cash in fuel and initial costs.

85 F-150 weighed 1000-1500 pounds less than today's F-150. The 3.7L will not get 30mpg highway in any F-150, but it is a huge improvement over the V6 used over the last 15 years.

I think there was a typo. The Ford site is describing the engine as 3.5l.

If it's a 3.5l, it will be the ecoboost motor. If 3.7l, it will be the dohc V6 non-turbo that's going into the 2011 mustang V6.

From the Ford press release:
Ford: Driving powertrain innovations into the market
Other new Ford powertrains coming in 2010 include an EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 for the F-150. The EcoBoost 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine delivers the thrust and performance feel of a V-8, with the fuel efficiency of a V-6. Current EcoBoost-equipped models are delivering up to a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy and a 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions versus larger-displacement engines.

If it is the same engine in the Taurus SHO, it'll have 365 hp and 350 ft-lbs torque. I doubt they'll just pull it from the SHO and put it in the F-150, but we can dream.

3.7 is a Dodge size, Maybe they mean the 3.5 Ecoboost engine. or their old 4L v6.

So is the 3.5, but that is what the Ford site is calling it. That is what is in my Charger. I know I went to the dark side, but at least at the time it was American and Ford didn't have a decent sedan with good performance, that could fit the 200+ lbs of me comfortably.

LOL, just because Dodge makes a 3.7l and 3.5l doesn't mean Ford can't make engines of the same displacement. Ford will have both 3.5L and 3.7L motors in their vehicles pretty soon. I know the 3.5L is already available in the taurus (ecoboost) and the fusion (non-ecoboost). The 3.7L is already available in the Lincoln MKS and will be available for the 2011 Mustang V6 (305 hp, 30+ mpg ). These are both all-new motors from Ford and have nothing to do with Dodge.

The 300-6 was the best motor ford ever made, absolutely bulletproof stump pulling torque too. Great motor for a 4x4 bronco or f150. I had a 82 and 89 with it

My 95 had that 300CID 6 banger. It was a great engine. I never had any complaints about it and it was reliable.

My 2009 Lincoln MKS has the 3.7L engine. It's adequate for moving 4300 pounds of car around. I think mine is rated at 273HP on regular gas and 275HP on 89 octane, but I've heard they're kicking it up to a bit over 300HP for the 2011 Mustang. They would have to work on getting more torque out of it for it to be a decent truck engine.

I used to joke that my 300 could only get my '95 150 going 60 mph.

But I could pull a house while doing it.
