Window Tint?

What percent (%) tint does Ford use on the back and side windows of the 2010 FX4 Supercrew? Looking to match the front windows to the factory rear and back window.

I think it's 20% but your window tint guy should be able to tell you.

Check your state law for limits. Besides getting tickets, if you have a state inspection (like in NC), the inspection garage might not pass your vehicle if your aftermarket tint is too dark.

Beware - if you travel out of state you can be ticketed for dark tint. Not trying to discourage you, but the police are really cracking down on dark tint.

Search this and other boards for window tint and ticket.

I think you're wrong about this. What is someone supposed to do, pull the tint off before driving in the state?

I do know that if you have illegal tint in your state and you get in an accident your car insurance may refuse to pay the claim.

They could only do that if they could prove the tint was a factor in the accident.

Correct. Hence the use of the word may in my post above.

I believe he is actually correct - you can get a tint ticket out of state. Probably won't be a fix-it ticket, but they can certainly still fine you. If the speed limit on a certain freeway in your state is 75, and you follow that freeway into a state where the limit is 65, is "but the speed limit it 75 in my state!" going to help you any?

I understand what you're saying but your analogy is flawed. Window tint is a modification that can't easily be undone, like letting off the gas pedal.

California has stricter emissions that other states. That doesn't mean you can get a ticket for driving an out of state vehicle that doesn't pass their emissions (i.e just passing through).

I wish I could find the link, but I read (within the past month - on another board) about a guy that had legal tint in his state and got a ticket in another state.

I'm not implying they're waiting for you at the border, but if they want to write you a ticket, they can. If nothing else, it gives them a reason to pull you over.

Your logic is also flawed. You can't buy a new car in Washington and then register it in CA either (unless it meets the emission standard).

I spoke to an officer in florida about this before I hauled my motorcycle down there for a rally. The laws follow the state that your vehicle is registered in. They will not pull you over if the only thing wrong is window tint. He did say that if you are doing something stupid and get pulled over that they could write you a ticket but probably wouldn't.

I guess you should take your own advice. I called Florida police because I was visiting from Louisiana. Hence I was in the state for a week. It would be the same as if you were passing thru. The answer he gave me is if they saw somebody with an out of town license plate they would not write you a ticket just because your tint is illegal in that state.
