"Would" is the key word used, but they can. I have been in law enforcement for 12 years and I have seen such tickets written. They are chicken **** but it can be done. The state I work in did not allow window tint until a few years ago however, the bordering state did. In most instances the guy was speeding, didn't have proof of insurance etc, so to cut him a break, the officer wrote the driver for tinted windows which is a non-moving violation which means low fine, no points and no court appearance. Bottom line, your vehicle and you have to be compliant with the laws of the jurisdiction you are operating in.

Well said. You "may" not get a ticket, but that certainly doesn't mean you "can't".

I have a 2010 Crew cab Lariat with 20% tinted windows on the front windows. The truck is registered in VA. I was driving through Maryland the other day and going through a speed trap. I knew it was a trap so I was doing 35mph, when the cop pulled me over for nothing more than tint. He was real nice and told me that since maryland has the same tint laws as VA, that he could give me a ticket for it. He let me go without a ticket because I am in the military, but it is very possible to get a ticket for nothing more than tint.

Try driving in VA BCH with dark tinted windows or a truck with a lift kit...They will make you pull the tint off the windows or get an immediate ticket! If the lifted truck bumper is not at stock height they ticket it too...

I was stopped here in Georgia and I have Florida plates. When the nice officer () came up to the window, I asked what I had done. He replied "nothing, but your window tint appears to be too dark". He had me roll the window up a bit and he tested it......I have 15% on the front and the device meaured 14% (I think they have an error margin of plus/minus 3%).

But no ticket.

I have 15% on my front windows and 5% on the back 3 windows over the factory tint and it is DARK!!. Haven't had any problems with tickets yet. They don't normally stop you in this area for nothing more than tint.

jesrsey beast,

Does your 20% on the front windows match the factory rear windows on your Lariat?

I think the factory windows are around 18% so the tint guy told me that does my tinting. At first I had only my fronts tinted at 15% and they were ever so slightly darker than the backs but you couldn't tell it unless you looked closely to find out. I then got the urge to put 5% over the back and I love it, though you can barely see out at night. With the backup camera all is good tho.
