Undercover Swing Case mounting concern

I have a 2010 Ford FX4 Supercrew with the 5.5 foot bed.

The other day I received the free Undercover Swing Case that was offered when you buy an Undercover SE tonneau cover. I figured today was as good a day as any to install it. The one I got is for the driver's side of the bed. It is model # SC201D which appears to be the correct one for this truck/side.

My concern is that the two holes at the end of the support bracket line up directly over the indent in the bed where you can put a 2x4 or something similar to use as a bed divider. The lag screws provided with the Swing Case do not appear to be made to mount this way but seem more like this end of the support bracket should fit flush against the bed. I did remove the tie down so it's not in the way.

Has anyone else installed this Swing Case in the bed of a 2009-10 Supercrew? If so, what did you do? It seems like the bracket itself either needs to be an inch or two longer or the holes should about 3-4 inches to the left of where they are. I sent the same question directly to Undercover to get their opinion.

I want to get this figured out before I begin drilling any holes. I may just drill two holes to the left of bed indent in both the bracket and bed and use them instead of the existing holes. It just doesn't seem like I should have to do that though.

On a related note, installation requires drilling six holes into the side of the bed. I'm concerned about doing this but if I can find a good way to protect the metal I'm ok with it. Do you have any suggestions on how to prep the hole after it is drilled but before the bracket is installed?

I'm the same fellow whose center mounting brackets on the Luverne running boards did not line up properly either. I was told that Ford made a small change to the rocker panel hole locations between the 2009 and 2010 model years. Don't know if that is really true but that's the reason I was given for the problem.

Thanks for any tips/tricks/ideas.

That's very weird for sure. I will say to just drill two holes in the bracket to the left of that square hole. Sorry you have to do that extra step but these things happen. You will be good to go once you do that.

On my 2009, those two holes to the right of the big square one on the black bracket just cleared, to the right, the indent for the wood. I will post some shots in a few minutes.

Once you drill the two holes in the bracket you will be all set and will enjoy the Swing Case. Like others you will say it is great but you wish it was bigger.

Be sure not to run the self tapping screws in too quick and too deep or you will strip 'em out (like I did). Thanks

Here is one shot, and then a link below to the whole album.

Here are some shots of my install. You will see that my bracket already had four holes in it, and anyways the two on the right cleared the indent of the bed.

Oh, btw the tiedown was in the way as you said, I just turned it upside down, cannot really be used when swing case is closed against bed but at least i won't lose it, the he big hole behind it is covered up and if I really needed that tie down I could use it if I swung the swing case open.

Good ruck.

Man, that's what I call a helpful reply. Thanks a bunch for the information and pictures!

I'll probably drill two holes to the left of the indent and call it good. I hate drilling in to a new vehicle but I bought it to use it, not just look at it.

Did you do anything special to the holes you drilled in to the bed to help prevent them from rusting?

I hear you. Drilling the two holes to left of indent is same as just self tapping two to the right anyways, two holes is two holes. I feel same way with holes in new truck I bought it to use as a truck and the holes won't hurt it and I feel better using the truck as much as I can etc etc. No, I did nothing to the holes I self tapped into the bed, but I would understand if you felt the need to, I just did not want to obsess about them, no big deal, its a pickup bed etc.

Good luck, you will like the Swing Case.

A rep from Undercover called me this morning to talk about the concern I have with the mounting bracket that comes with the Swing Case.

On Monday they checked the mounting bracket that comes with the kit on the 2009+ F150 at a local Ford dealership and it fits properly on the 6.5 foot and 8 foot beds. However, they see it is too short for the 5.5 foot bed so the lag screw holes do fall over the indent in the bed as indicated in the pictures above. Stuff happens.

They are making a new bracket for me and sending it to me. I'm very impressed with their responsiveness and solution.

So, if any of you order a Swing Case for a 2009+ F150 with the 5.5 foot bed, don't be surprised if the bracket that comes with it is a bit too short.

I'll let you know how the new bracket fits after it arrives and I have a chance to have at it.

Good to know, thanks for the update.

I learned something.

And, I am surprised too to learn, as I had always thought the differences in the bed lengths was all forward of the wheel well, ie, the section in the frontmost of the bed.

Interesting. Unlike the bracket pictured in johnwill's post, the bracket that came with mine only had 2 holes at the end, not 4 (2 on each side of the latch striker). I wonder how many holes the replacement bracket will have.

I'm confident the replacement bracket I'm getting will work. I'll post a follow-up one way or the other.

I'm suspecting a mid production change by them added the two holes to make it a four hole bracket. Pics when you get done pls!

I received the replacement bracket today. I was surprised to see the bracket arm is the same length as the original one. The only real difference is the addition of the two holes just to the left of the striker latch. It looks to be nearly identical to the one in johnwill's pictures. As long as this replacement bracket works ok I'll be happy.

The new bracket is the top one (four holes), the original bracket is the bottom one (two holes). Plus the new one has some slobber on it from the inspection our dog performs on anything/everything that comes into the house.

I'll take another shot at installing it this weekend, as long as it warms up a bit outside. Five degrees is a bit cool for me to be messing about with this stuff.

I am glad they sent you the newer bracket. Let us know how the install goes - when you get some warmth out your way. I guarantee the install will take minutes. Thanks

I can't complain too much since I got the Swing Case for free when I bought the Undercover.

I installed the Swing Case yesterday afternoon and the replacement bracket was a perfect fit.

Kudos to Kenny at Undercover for helping me resolve this problem as quickly as he did, especially considering the time of year! Their customer service gets an A+ from me.
