4X4 vs. 4X2
I have never felt the need for a 4x4 and consider it a total waste of money for my use of the truck. Mine is a daily driver that hauls what I need to and tows a trailer occasionally. I did not have to pay the extra price for a 4x4, do not have to maintain the 4x4 and get about 2 mpg better mileage. The only offroading I do is at the farm, and the 4x2 does just fine as long as I don't get stupid.

With a 4x4 you could get stupid though
I have always owned 4x4's and always will. To each there own, no one can tell you what to buy. All I know is being stuck without 4x4 sucks the big one.

4X2 will probably suit most needs unless you do go off road or experience snow/ice or other inclement conditions that you need to be out in. Not that its a necessity in those conditions (relatively speaking) but it does make them more bearable.
That having been said; I live in Texas, get very little snow and dont necissarially need the 4x4 yet I have it. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Also at least in some places 4x4 will add some resale value to your truck. I just feel like my truck would be missing something if it were 2wd but that speaks more to personal preference than anything else.

Haha haha all this usefulness of 4x4 or 4x2 chatter.... Its up to you. I have a very capable 4x2 that handles the road like a champ. Its lowered, got some bigish wheels and does me fine. But would suck to try to take off-road but guess what, I don't go off road so its perffect for me. But you??? Who knows. I just thinks is funny to see 4x4 trucks all lifted that never see the dirt, just like I think lifted 2wd's are funny. But who cares, I don't make their payment nor they mine. Good luck with your choice and either way, you'll have a great truck!!!!
i said its my opinion. if that is dumb, than that is your opinion. ......
true, if you live in a nice climate, sure 2wd is ok. i live in ohio and whan we do get bad weather 2wd is a waste, even with weight in the back people around here still have trouble. my neighbor spun out the other day, hit a small tree. she was drivng prolly 45mph, went across the bridge, hit some slushy road and went for a spin... i had a 2wd once and it wasnt suitable, having to park it in the winter and drive a front wd beater for the snow..thats why people ask questions on forums, to get others opinions.
What about people that live in areas where bad weather doesn't affect them and they need to haul or tow something? In this sense I disagree with you but it is you Opinion. I think it all boils down to what he's trying to do and where he lives. I live in NYC with a 2wd but I don't drive during the winter, if I did I would have went with a 4x4.

I live on an island. Its hot, flat and the stickiest area I may get into is on the beach. In 40 years on the island and working on the beach all through junior high, high school and college, the vehicle found stuck on the beach the most was always a 4x4....driving somewhere they shouldn't. That being said.....they had already gone farther than they ever could with a 4x2. ;-)
I have a 4x4. I do so because of two reasons....(1) It gives slightly more ride height stock and (2) I want the traction reassurance on a slippery boat ramp when launching......which even a 4x2 with LSD will not help. Then again....I have also seen
4x4's in the drink as well if you are not careful.

4X4 is the way to go. But again it is up to your driving experience and where you are located. I opted to always prefer a 4x4 when I was in N Carolina I used it for hunting the dark muddy backwoods where you are advised to have a winch mounted on the front of your truck. I also used it for fishing on the beaches at night. In NC you are aloud to drive onto the beaches in certain areas. Now that I am in NY, I have a 4x4 f150 because of my location and what I do throughout the year. Snow is never fun with a 2 wheel drive on the mountain and the Springs are very wet so the fields I drive on our farm can really be rutted out. Even then, sometimes I have to use my Polaris. But still, If I have to be on the road and I have my family with me its nice to know I have something extra if I need to use it. Gas milage has really improved over the years, however I feel if you own a truck gas milage was never a concern, its a truck! Good luck!!
oh..must have missed that part

If you're asking this then i don't think a 4x4 is really needed for whatever you'll be using your truck for. But even if you slightly want it i say go for it. even for just the cool factor. It doesn't hurt anyone or anything but your wallet. You don't want to end up regretting.

this is related to the debate, if not im not trying to hijack this thread, this is embarrassing. i just went to my sons wrestling practice. It gets real crowded, no parking lot, the street is lined with cars, so alot of people park in the yard. Front wheel drive mini vans, a couple trail blazers, couple fords, couple dodges. The yard is wet, muddy, soft. Here i go pulling in the yard and park, im in a 4 wheel drive fx4, i got stuck trying to back out, slingin mud eveywhere. I have goodyear ats silentarmor tires. i had to call the wife to bring the tow straps so she could pull mme out. this is an example imho that 4x4 is needed, even tho it proved useless here.
