I thought the auto lamp feature also turns youre lights on when your wipers are on. Some guys that added the new switch to there XL and STX's on another forum said theirs do now. My wifes Escape works like that too. I just added the new switch and sensor to my STX but they gave me a bad switch so I'm waiting on the replacement.
In my 09 it had the autolamp feature already but when I turn my wipers on the lights automatically come on.

You can get both the sensor and switch for $60 shipped. Get the part numbers and search for them.

Does the switch work for F-250's work for F-150's?

I went to the site and it didn't have Ford F-150 listed as an available truck... But it does have the headlight switch (w/fog lamps) under the F-250...

A little more detail, I read on another forum where a guy scratched his dash using a screwdriver to remove his light switch assembly... hope this helps:

To add the auto headlamps feature:
I have an 09 XL and got my Parts from www.TascaParts.com

7L1Z13A018A Sentinel sensor, w/o atc 2007 - 2010 $11.39

This is in the front center of the top of the dash, to install take a very small flat tip screwdriver and gently lift the rectangle cover (about 1" X 1/2"). It sure was nice of FORD to connect the wire to this "dummy" trim piece. unhook the 2 pin connector =>C287 (aha 2 pins, it is only one sensor, 4 pins is C286 for auto A/C), plug in the new sensor and look at the sensor and the hole, it only goes in one way.

9L3Z11654CA Headlamp switch, f150, w/auto headlamps, w/foglamps 2009 - 2010 $43.55

Remove the panel that is on the left side of the dash (only accessible with the drivers door open), disconnect the connector => C205 from your "old" light switch. You can now feel the detents you have to push in (squeeze) to remove the old light switch, you shouldn't need any tools. Once the old switch is out pull the wire (connector => C205) thru and connect to the new switch, line it up correctly and push it in.

Replace the panel, to the left of the dashboard.

I just removed that side cover and then pushed out the old switch with my hands, connected the new switch and popped it in. Then connected the sensor and in less than a couple of minutes had auto headlamps. It's actually a really nice mod.

MY QUESTION:

Who's done this with HID's?? Are there any problems with HID's and the Autoheadlamp feature???

Do you mean disable the DRL's? If thats what you are talking about, yes it can be done. A Ford tech has to do it with the IDS.

But as long as its in the auto position and the sensor is unplugged the headlights will follow the ignition.
The manual for my '10 XLT sez the DRL's are the headlamps running at reduced power. I wish it were the amber parking lights instead.

The thing is, I did the automatic headlights install, and at night when you get in the truck, I literally put the key in and as soon as I turn to "ON" before "START" the lights come on.. I don't think it's good for the headlights to turn on before the truck starting and while the engine cranks to get started..

I know some things about relays but I'm curious if I wanted to install this, how would I do it?? Basically I was thinking of putting a 5 or 10 second delay where if the headlights are activated, they won't go on for at least 5 or 10 seconds so if I flip them on it would take a few seconds or if they were on auto and the truck was turned on, they again wouldn't go on until the truck was started up.

My GM did the same thing for like 2 1/2 years never had 1 issue with the HIDs from DDM and the exs truck does the same thing.
