Cool Shutter in trans, and dealer blew up PCM

I have read all the threads here re: the trans bump etc.

Well, mine does something no one here has mentioned.

When slowing down from higher speeds, 45-50 and up, at 20mph, again while slowing down, the trans shutters. Like running over rumble strips on the highway. Lasts a short second, but none the less, nothing I have ever felt before. Almost like a manual trans, eating talking on phone, steering with knees, slowing down and forgeting to push in the clutch. That shutter. Something like that.

It also, once in a while will bump once I have stopped. Random, no pattern, just randomly bump. I can duplicate it by going from D to 3, and back to D. You know how you can feel it go from first gear, to third, and back. That feeling. Again, random. Just does it. First time I thought someone bumped me in the rear.

Truck is 2010 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4. Brand new, now has 3500 miles. Had both these symptoms since day one.

Well, dealer called today to tell me that they somehow erased my PCM. Truck wont run. Wont even crank over. Dead. They were monitoring something on their computer, reading PIDS?, and the truck just died. All it knows now is its a 2010 and the VIN. Everything else gone. They called Fords hotline, and they said, whoops. This has happened before. Order new PCM. Although, this may not fix the initial complaint, ie tranny, but will get the truck running again. Oh, and the PCM is not available. Back ordered.

So, how many of you are having your PCMs replaced that none are available? And why they replacing yours?

Good thing I dont have aftermarket programmer in it.... making me think twice about getting one now.

So truck is down for unknown period of time. Made my $700 plus payment today. That felt, well, very empty.

Hello everyone,
I have been monitoring this forum since September and am really impressed with the sincere responses you all have been given. I have purchased a 2010 f150 SCAB and really beginning to enjoy it. I am a mopar man however this is the first Ford pkup Ive owned and I am really impressed with the quality, features etc. All my other trucks were Rams. My son finally talked me into the change, though it was tough at first I am slowly coming around to loving my truck. Only one major problem and that is I live too close to work so the ride is way too short!! However I have been experiencing the same tranny issues. Where it shutters when I lighly accelerates between 30-40mph. If I quickly accelerate no problems. I have 1500 miles on the truck and was hoping it was possibly a brake-in issue. Now I dread taking it back to the dealer for a follow up. I will let you all know later what the diagnosis is. Once again a great forum for terrific info!! PS Will post pictures soon

well i have been working as a electrical tech for Ford for a 12 years and i have never seen or heard or have had a pcm go **** up just by monitoring pid data.

pid data allows us to see the in real time the values and out puts of every system built in to the truck. it does nothing else but look at data, and display it.

so the people working on your truck are either lying or incompetent, i don't believe the blanked your pcm i think they screwed up the new flash, now if this is the case if they know what they are doing can reload the pcm with the "AS BUILT DATA" which they can get from Ford.

but from what you have said it doesn't sound like they know what they are doing.

the reason the pcm is back ordered is because it just a item that is not replaced very often, 9/10 times when people are replacing pcm's they are grasping at straws pcm's never just die.

and just so you know the new pcm comes blank and has to be loaded with the trucks "AS BUILT DATA"

Good luck.

Stutter and bump issues MAY be drive shaft related- do you by chance have a 6.5' bed? There is a new TSB out for replacement of the two piece drive shaft in the 157" wheelbase trucks (ie, super crew with 6.5' bed). I am supposed to be having the drive shaft on my truck replaced next week; will post up if it resolves the issues.

I dunno but I would have them check the solenoids in your tranny. Sounds like you might have bad one. What do the techs think. Sounds like the higher gear is not releasing and the truck almost stalls before it downshifts. I had that in my 05, with the 4r70e tranny, but not with the new truck. Hope you can get it fixed, Rob

Have single piece driveshaft. So the TSB to which you refer is not applicable.

The dealer states they got a 'administrative' code to put the PCM back to as built, but again, the only thing it shows is the VIN and 2010 model year. No other communication possible.

Document everything !!! Now I'm SCARED because the dealer just called to tell me my 2010 Lariat Screw is due in on Dec. 14th. I haven't had any tranny problems on my 09. Is Ford's build quality going DOWN ? Theres one guy who is having his ENGINE replaced in a Brand new truck .You know that Ford is battling with the unions right now so I guess the people who build these trucks don't give a damn what " gets missed or goes out the door ", their attitude is " let the dealers fix it ". They might not know it but they are just screwing themselves as of now Ford plant workers make more then anyone at GM or Chrysler.

I get the bump every once in a while... it feels like I just bumped the curb or ran over something relatively large while turning. It seems to happen when turning right at slow speeds... took a couple of times to realize I wasn't running over things.

My '05 had a similar issue... turning right it was like it came out of gear for a few seconds and then would catch. Getting on it in that truck (accelerating hard) it would take what seemed like an eternity to kick down a gear and then catch up to itself before it would go. This was quite disconcerting if you were pulling out into a situation that was a go or get run over deal. The fix they did was a new drive shaft... it worked great for a while and the right turn slip issue never came back, but it still had the delay in gearing down under acceleration. The '09 shines in this department for sure!

I've had the shudder on occassion but not so much that it's bothersome.

You have the shutter in your 09/10 F150 when slowing? Like a rumble strip?
It bugs the hell out of me. I have had two people question it. One said the first few times he thought it was the road, and then realized not so much.

I've felt something like that before too, on two separate occasions and only when turning into the local gas station. There is nothing there when I make the turn, other than a small drop in the concrete where the joint has separated. But it sounded every time like I had bottomed out the truck, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hell I had just hit, cause there was nothing there. Bugs the hell out of me!

Good Lord, people. There's always growing pains on new model year trucks.

I had to have my DS replaced on my 05 with a driveline vibration TSB. I was never scared. Just took it in and had the problem repaired.
