newly installed back up camera not working

Hi all, 2009 F150 xlt 5.4 tow package. I installed the headliner and rear wiring harnesses, the rear view mirror with lcd and the camera in the tail gate. Started the truck up and put it in reverse, got a blue screen for about 2 seconds and then it went out. rechecked all the connections, all good. Started the truck up and still blue screen for 2 seconds then display goes away. I searched all the threads and could not find a problem like i am having. any help would sure be appreciated. thank you.

Look on a different 150 forum....f150forum....dotcom and look for a post called "09 rear view camera"

good luck....basically it sounds like you are missing some wiring

Thanks for the reply but all the wiring for the OEM camera is now there. Installed the rear wiring harness and replace the headliner wiring harness. but just a blue screen for 2 seconds and then it goes away.

But do you really have the video wires in the main harness?

as was mentioned numerous times in those 29 pages of posts. The main truck harness has the camera wires in it. you have to replace the front and rear harnesses, which i did. got them from tasca. so the answer to your statement is, yes i have all the wires. if i disconnect then connect the camera plug or the mirror plug and put it in reverse i get a half second pic of snow then the blue screen for two seconds then it goes out.

I have seen a few post where people have verified that they did not have the video wires in the main harness going from the back to the front. Have you actually looked to see if you have the brown wire @ pin# 4 of the main harness and a brown/yellow wire @ pin#5 at the back of the truck.

yes i checked the rear harness and i do not have the brown and brown/yellow. i checked the main front harness and found a brown but no brown/yellow. the replacement harness in the rear is a 10 wire at the plug and the other end at the truck is a 5 wire plug. looks like i am screwed.

Just add the missing wires....not too fun but you've gone too far to quit now!

No not going to splice wires into the trucks harness. going to pull everything off and put it up on ebay. I didn't find a step by step on adding the wires so no more pulling my hair out on this. and i want to apologize for doubting and disagreeing with you jac4x4

No worries, glad you could get to the bottom of it. Sorry you got hosed and I don't blame you about not wanting to muck with the harness wiring.

jac4x4 after getting over the disappointment of the camera not working i think i will try to run the wires. But i need some info from you. I am going to run a two wire twisted shielded cable from the headliner to the camera and splice them in but i can't figure out the other shielded wire DME19 black/orange and where to get hot and ground from. thanks

Sorry but I don't know exactly what the best option is for power and ground for your cam. You should be able to get ground in the rear harness somewhere and some people use the wire for reverse lights to power the cam.
good luck! If you have the tow package you should have power and ground at the trailer connector.

okay, do you know what the black/orange shielded wire is for? It runs with the brown & brown/yellow? I read where a couple of people here used the reverse lights for power . thanks

The shield wire is to help isolating the video signal from noise. I think you should tie it to ground and you should be OK.
