Fuel Milage
just filled up my tank again 2 nights ago... hand calculated 12.88 MPG. that was on Chevron fuel, same scenario as my previous fill up with 76 gas which got me 12.53 MPG.
i just installed my bakflip F1 last night... so i'll basically have a full tank of gas to calculate MPG with the cover on. i'll update you guys if i see any MPG improvement with the cover.

i've got the 5.4L and 3.73, like you. my truck is all stock, plat so it has the 20 inch wheels.
i dont see how its possible to break in to the 13 mpg range with this truck. my 12.88 mpg was me REALLY REALLY REALLY trying hard. like no WOT, no towing, no below freezing temps, no 4x4, no off roading, no heavy loads, etc, etc...
i think its time for another call to the dealership
my avg mpg gauge shows 9.9 now at 300miles on her, when i first got it, it said like 7mpg but that was at the dealer. Of course it has a 6in lift and 35's. but im still hoping for 12 to 13 city.
Don't even look at it until you have at least 5000 miles on it. It tends to be very inconsistent and poor until then.
My 2007 5.4L 3.55 Supercrew (bone stock) gets about 15.5mpg on average. My daily driving is a 60 mile round trip highway commute and I usually keep it at around 65-70mph. It never really gets much better than that for me and I'm a pretty reserved driver.
We do not have gasahol / ethanol (E85) here in SE Michigan. I made a run to Cincinnati & back over the labor day weeekend, just about 500 miles round trip just under 23 mpg, I do admit it was the LABOR day weekend so I kept the cruise around 68 (OHIO is 65 mph) and the trip is 99% expressway.
back & forth to work since I average just over 18 (mostly country drivin.. not much I-state)
09 XL 2WD reg cab 8' box, 3.55LS rear, 4.6l 3V, 6 spd tranny, 50# tires I added a tonneau cover before the Cincy trip. (2600 trouble free miles so far)
the MPG beats the heck out of "Big Red" (aka the 'clunker' I got $4500 for) my "former" 92 XLT SC long bed, (302V8) that barely got 13mpg on a good day, and routinely got 10-11mpg.

Looks like the gas stations are selling the winter blend now, 19 MPG avg back and forth to Cleveland (400 mile round trip)
hey guys (gals?) my problem is gas mileage when towing, i know i shoulda bought a TD but my 05' fx4 gets 7 mpg towing a 6500 lb trailer (toy hauler loaded) programmers? intake, pipes? would they all add up to very much gain? i tow about 5 times a year so not real crucial but going to glamis is a twelve hour drive and lots of green to get there. any help with improvement? i get 11 all purpose, i live in the santa cruz mts so not ideal.
how about wheel alignment. Have any of you guys with poor mileage checked the alignment status properly? I don't mean just have someone set the alignment using the ford "range", but rather give you the real alignment numbers and adjust to a true optimum value in the right range. That takes more time than the factory generally has time to do for each truck.
Not to mention the settling and adjustment that invariably happens in the first couple thousand miles.

My best recorded mileage was 24 mpg.
I have a 2009 4.6 liter 6 speed tranny with 18 inch Michelin low rolling resistance tires. What really helps my gas mileage is at:

I put one of those lower air dams (which are on the 2010 F-150's) on my 2009 and it is giving me an increase of almost a mile per gallon extra for freeway travel. I think this air dam is the reason Ford dropped the SFE's, which were rated for 21 mpg highway, because all the 2010's gained 1 mpg due to the new air dam.

2010 Ford f150 4.6L 3V with 3.73 LS 4x4 SuperCab. I have the 18" wheels with the XLT chrome package. I got about 900 miles on it so far. I am mostly city miles (about 70%) and I get about 18.7 according to the message center. I got about 23.2 on the highway going about 65-70. I don't travel on the highway too often but that was the highest I have seen. Seems to be around 21 - 23 on the highway for me.
