My '09 Plat Screw w/3100 miles is averaging 14.3 with mostly city driving (4.5 mile commute to work) and short runs to soccer practice, etc... on the weekends I typically do at least on 100 mile round trip when I go ride MX.

My '05 with the same type of driving was averaging 12...

I'm happy!

I'll be taking the '09 on a long road trip in a couple of weeks... I'm looking forward to see how she does on the highway.

My wifes '08 Expy EL averages 16.5 with a mix of city and highway driving... not too bad for such a heavy vehicle.

Drive like an old grandpa

No bull guys, I am averaging 20.8 mpg. I have a 2010 screw with 18" wheels. It is the 4.6 3v with the 6 speed tranny. I commute 35 miles one way to work. This is with the cruise set on 60 most of the way. If i drive aggressively, the mpg's drop drastically. But damn it is nice to have a truck that can accelerate. My 05 4.6 was soooo sloooow.

Sorry, that means absolutely NOTHING! Don't even think about knowing what kind of MPG you are getting until you hit at least 5,000 miles. Trust me, I'm about to turn over 20,000 on a Platinum 5.6 4x4 SCREW I bought in January and MPG jumped almost 2 MPG after 5,000 and has gradually increased. I'm getting pretty consistently 16.2 now and over 17 doing long stretches on the expressway.

Thanks jvos, I khow what you are saying. I just need to get it out on the highway, take a couple runs, break it in and I'm positive it will give me better MPG. Just don't have time right now. I have bought so many new vehicles over the years and they always improved after 5000 miles. Just never had a gage to display. Honestly, I really don't care at this point. I love this truck, know it will get better after a few thousands miles and as long as the price of fuel stays, will run it, enjoy the ride and everything else it has.

2009 F-150 SCrew XLT 4X4 w/ a 3.31 rear end and a 5.4

Using no ethanol in the gas, doing 75 MPH, I got 21 MPG over hundreds of miles on a family trip this summer. And that was w/ a family of four and camping equipment.

E10 and around town I get 16 MPG.

I drive easy to get good mileage.

Im at 400 miles and my average says 16.2. I expected worse for being such a new motor. Once the motor gets broken in all the way I might get better but im happy with 16. I drive about 70% highway and 40% city. 2010 SCrew FX4

The 4.6 3v with 3.73 axle ratio seems to be a good setup for mpgs and plenty of power to go with it.

Angry 14.3-14.4

2009 SuperCrew 4x4 w/3.55 Platinum

I was getting about 15.4mpg quite steadily until I hit about 5000miles on the odometer, then I dropped to about 14.3-14.4mpg. No idea why. Sucks, my 2004 SuperCrew w/3.73 got 14.4mpg for the 5 years I had her. I do about 99% city driving, and never baby any of my trucks. Not sure why the mpg drop on my 2009, unless they have already changed the gas formula now that fall/winter season is ahead? Seems a little early to me, but what do I know about gas mixtures.

Be careful to compare apples to apples here. Each answer is specific to the corresponding set up.

What rear end and cab config do you have? Is it a 4x4?

I have a FX4 Screw with the 3.73. My trailer is 5K as well and on my first rip out I racked up 10.1 MPG. Last trip out, with 2,600 miles on the truck, I was getting 10.1 to 11.1 MPG, but this was driving down HWY101 (along the Oregon Coast climbing hills pretty consistently).

On the last leg of the trip (100 miles failrly flat ground) I found that I was getting better MPG if I could hold the truck at 62ish and keep the transmission from slipping into 5th gear. Once the truck slips to 5th, the MPG dropped to 9.2 or so. Problem is I like towing at 55. Safer and I get to enjoy the scenery at the same time.

My buddy in CA has a 4x4 Screw with the 3.55 and his trailer is around 7K lbs and is narrower and more streamline than mine. He averaged 12.2 miles on a 2,700 mile round trip to Oregon this Summer, but I believe this included some unhitched driving.

My best two trips by far: ~ 200 miles each loaded with two adults, 3 kids, dog and ~500lbs of camping gear/bikes (as dry as I have had while on the Hwy).

• Portland, OR over MT Hood to Bend, OR (more than half way) at 70 MPH = Computer 18.2 MPG, hand cals was 17.6

• Bend, OR back over to Salem and up to Portland 60 to 65 MPH = 21.1 MPG. Drove a little in town before filling up and it dropped to 19.6. Hand Calc was 19.1. Bend, OR is located in a high desert area, so heading back to Salem has a lot of down hill section grades and Salem to Portland is another 60 miles of relatively flat I5.

Note: We can not fill our own fuel in Oregon (except Diesel or gas in motorcycles), so the hand calc is not as accurate. Last time I filled, the pump clicked off and they topped it off, but I was only a little over ¾ full and the MPG was better Vs the following fill that was terrible.

In town MPG plain pisses me off, can't get it above 11.9...no matter how easy I am on the gas.

I'm loving mine.

It's easy to keep it above 20 MPG on country roads putting along 45-55 mph or on the interstate if I keep it below 70. In town it drops to 17-19 mpg but I live in an area without too much congestion.

Last fill-up averaged 19.1 mpg with a mix of all three types of driving. With the 36 gallon tank the range is the furthest of any vehicle I've ever owned. I love being able to drive all day long without worrying about gas stations.

The refineries start changing over to winter blend in September. It is a gradual increase in RVP. Winter rvp is 13.5 max. for non conventional fuel and 15.0 max for conventional fuel. Summer fuel RVP is 7.2 for non conventional and 9.0 for conventional. Winter blend always drops fuel millage.

Ouch.
I read that same statement over and over again when the '04s came out.

My '99 must be like riding an overturned 5 gal bucket. :o
